Is there an abandon colony button ?

I hate it when I end up with useless planets but I see no easy way to abadon the planets.

when you abandon a colony, the planet reverts to its undeveloped class. In GalCiv Gold for OS/2, destroy colony reduced the planet to class 1. Not a bad idea if Range matters in a huge galaxy.

I don't see the logic in reducing the class of the planet to a 1 if the colony is abandoned.

Simply abandoning a colony, for whatever reason, should not destroy a habitable world.

Perhaps we can have 2 options.

"Abandon colony" would require a transport or colony ship to be in orbit, and would simply transfer the population to that ship and destroy all acheivements built on that planet.

"Destroy colony" would wipe out the remaining population on the planet, as well as make the planet inhabitable by other civilizations. This would lower your morality, but restrict other empires from building there (if you no longer control that star system.)

Ideas or suggestions?

Makes sense to me. "Abandon colony" means the planet is not habitable (at least by terrans). "Destroy colony" could be used to prevent another race from colonizing a habitable colony that you would otherwise loose by combat.

That makes much more sense in terms of gameplay. The "morality cost" should be pretty high for the "Destroy Colony" option as the destruction of a habitable world is not something that should be done lightly.

For the "Destroy" option perhaps some minimum level of technology should be required before it becomes available or perhaps just a certain specific technology.

There was some mention that certain technologies would only be available to races that had chosen a certain moral path and perhaps this would tie in to that.
