Any reason to purchase Drengin Network if only interested in GalCiv?

Hey guys.

I'm hoping to get involved in the GalCiv beta soon, but before purchasing I'd like to know what the _exact_ differences are between purchasing just GalCiv or the complete Drengin Network.

Is there any benefit to Drengin Network aside from getting access to the other Stardock games? If I am only interested in GalCiv (both retail and beta) is there any reason at all why I would want to spend more on getting Drengin Net?

IE: If I pay the $44.95 for GalCiv will I still get access to all the updates made to the game after it is released, as well as the library and metauniverse stuff?

Thanks in advance for putting my mind at ease :)

You'll get everything to do with GalCiv if you only buy GalCiv... Drengin.net just gives you access to the other games AFAIK...

This is a very interesting question. I think there are some who have purchased only GC, but I don't know how it works out right now during the Beta. Is there someone that has purchased GC without Drengin.net that can let the rest of us know how it worked for you? Do you get the DGM or do you have to do manual downloads? If the DGM comes with it is GC the only thing that shows for games? etc.

I only purchased GalCiv, and you still get the Drengin Game Manager, just that the only thing that shows up on it is GalCiv and GalCiv updates...

Yep, I did the same thing as Wyrenn, everything works fine, updates have been no problem.

Except for the possability of GalCiv 2 being a seperate game rather than GC v2.0, not really. Purchase of GalCiv alone will still get you GalCiv and all updates for a one year duration after it's GM release. (Idle note, though: Drengin.net subscriptions start from D.net's GM release, which may or may not coincide with GC's. If ODNT is a judge of how D.N will be handled, it probably will, but that has not actually been sppecified at any point.)

If GC 2 is to be considered a seperate game, there will probably be an upgrade path from GC to D.N before then, so if you're not interested in any other Drengin.net games, it may be better to just get GC and wait until then to get the rest of D.net.

It's your choice in the end, either way.

When i'll buy the game at retail (as i am playing with my works laptop, i don't like to download "unfinished" material), will i get access to the updates as well?

I purchased Gal Civ but was thinking about upgrading to DN. Is there an upgrade price?

There will be an upgrade price but there isn't one presently.

From what I have read, there will be updates and additions the game for those the Drengin Net - think of it perhaps a "free"expansion pack. Those that buy the game outright won't have access to these upgrades. At least that is my understanding.

To a large extent yes. But all games eventually come to the end of their lifetime.

I'd be very surprised to see LightWeight Ninja get any further levels.
