Help needed

Has anyone figured out how to get the ships [aths on the research tree? I can get up to Defender but after that I can't find any other ships in the Research Tree, except whatever I can design. Is this the way is going to be or there are going to be particular types of ships that will be unlocked after you research a particular new technology???

For the most part, there aren't many predesigned ships yet. Basically, colony ship, constructors, freighters, scouts, survey vessels, and defenders are it, unless I'm forgetting one or two. There might be a predesigned transport ship as well, I think I've seen that.

At some point (I can't remember the details) the developers are going to add many predesigned ships, but we're not there yet.
