Any of the weather objects will work for australia. You just need to change the location code to the correct one for your area. There may not be a code for your city but weather.com should have one close by.

When you search for a city in weather.com the code will appear in the address bar.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/local/ASXX0089?from=search_city <----- using this as an example for Perth, Australia the code in the address bar is ASXX0089. Just find the code for your location and change the weather object.

Hope this helps.

Hiya,

While I wasnt looking for the Australian one, I did try the above tip for Calgary, Canada. The Weather widget still does not show the curent weather here. It seems to be stuck on the current one (Mexico).

Any thoughts??

You might be behind a firewall or proxy server that requires authentication. Do you need to enter a uderID and password to access the web? If so, then very few of the weather widgets will work. It's a pity, because I gather it's fairly easy to write code to do this.

Thanks for such a quick reply.

I am not behind a firewall currently. I do use a Router. The funny thing, and I've tried this with a few of the widgets, it's that it wont allow me to change the value in the field for the weather. I've gotten the code from weather.com, but, to no avail. Could it be the router?

I did use Konfabulator weather widget, and it worked no problem. This one though..grumble..

Which weather widget are you using? Some widgets you just enter the City and Country and it will change others require the weather code. For Calgary, Canada it would be CAXX0054.

Hope this helps you.

I have absolutely no clue why it's not working. I did use the above code (CAXX0054), but, it seems to do nothing. I am currently using Picturesque widget for the weather, and it just keeps defaulting to Greece.

I may (After work) unplug the router and see if that affects it at all. I am at a lost.

And, I really want it to work!

Thanks for the help.

I downloaded the Picturesque widget and used the CAXX0054 (00 being the number zero) and it worked fine and displayed the weather for Calgary Alberta, Canada.

Well, I disconnected the router, turned off the XP firewall, my AVG virus scanner.. you name it, I was naked to the internet and it still wont change the location of the weather.

I have no clue as to what I am doign wrong, or what is preventing it from changing.

Thanks for all your help though..

Close the widget and clean out C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX. Restart widget and input code.

I dont have that folder/directory. And, yah, I can see the hidden files.

Man, this is driving me crazy.

Do you have DX installed?

Well, if you don't have that folder then you need to re-install DX. When you load any widget, it creates the cache folder for each widget. Don't load DX, just the widget and see if it works.

Close the widget and clean out C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX.

To be clear User in the above directory structure is actually your username
e.g. for me: C:\Documents and Settings\Martin\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX

All my weather are designed to accept a city, country combo.

I am using Picturesque, though, I have tried a few others. I did uninstall Desktop X (beta), and reinstall, and that directory did not appear.

So, obviously, that is probably the issue. No directory = problem. Now, I am unsure what to do.

Btw, thanks again for everyone trying to figure this out. It's nice to see a supportive community.

are you installing to the default locations?

at what point in the path do you not have that folder/directory?

do you have your folder options marked to show 'hidden' - open a folder like 'my documents' - then in the menu - tools, folder options, 'view' tab, under 'hidden files and folders'

Ok.

I do have the directory now. Should I clear everything out of the star dock directory? I did delete just the pictureque directory, but, the same problem occurs. It seems to be always stuck on the Greece.

THis is rather annoying. And, I am not a complete tool with computers.

you can try clearing out either the desktopx folder or the widgets folder inside the desktopx folder

Adventurous? Now you have me curious!

Another thought - it 'may' be something to do with the fact you're using the beta. OK - I'm clutching at straws here, but all the new stuff like authentication may be what's required to get all of this working properly. Does anyone know if there's a time limit on the beta versions?

Silent_mannam, I'd strongly recommend buying the software. Don't let this experience put you off. I know it's disappointing, but purchasing it is definitely worth it, and just might solve your problem.

Don't load DX, just the widget and see if it works.
