Minor bug reports and comments

While I haven't played the game as much as _some_ people here, (heh) I've got some comments already...

1) Crashing to desktop. I see no errors in/around my game, and it appears rather random. As a general supposition, I wonder if this is only happens to Athlon processors - it would indicate that the dev's need to include a patch from MS in their code to fix a known DirectX bug.

2) It'd be nice if the game supported Mouse Wheels, especially for the build list and research list.

3) Is it feasable to have a quick "tutorial" on the various menus? You could have it an option for new games just to help people get a feel for the system. As an alternative, maybe a tip o' th' day? I'm not sure what's needed, but I'm getting a bit lost in the UI.

4) I love the build queue being empire-wide, but is it feasable to have ones for individual planets? (Or am I missing it?)

5) Is it possible to order the research/build list by "how long to complete"? Given, it's not always the best way to decide what to build, but it can sometimes make for easy decisions when you don't really care what to build/research next.

That's about it, I guess.

My own random comments:

1) I am seeing this too (2 crashes out of four games)--not an Athlon, but not very often. I just had a game dump after about 30 minutes, but I've played for a couple of hours straight without a crash, too.

4) You have the four governors who can all have different build lists, but in that vein I would like to see individual military/social/(research?) sliders for individual planets and a button for resetting them to the global settings.

5) It would be nice to see some kind of relative time ranking on the governor's screen, even if it is very tentative. That embassy is a killer too early in the game.

Crashes? Get SmartException. See thread "Get Smart Exception" by Brad. Look guys, it is often IMPOSSIBLE to solve some of the program exceptions that a new product can produce without the address/register information that goes with the crash. The data SE collects is KEY for solving the crashes you will see.

When I crash, I have NO exceptions and nothing to report in SmartException (that I can see). There is nothing else I can do but report the crash and post the debug.err file.

I too have an AMD Athlon and lots of crashes to the desktop. This is what I have to do to recover and resume playing:

1. Run RegClean (no errors most of the time)
1a. Wave chicken bones to the north ;)
2. Reinstall DirectX81b
2a. Wave bones to the south
3. Restart PC
3a. Eat any chicken left on bones while waiting for PC & Win98SE to boot up
4. Run RegClean again (fines errors to fix this time)
4a. Wave bones to the Northeast (in direction of Stardock in MI) LOL
5. Startup GC and hope I get to the game menu. :D

I have already renamed prefs.ini and intro.bik in the GC files as in Beta 2.

I think it's related to a qsort() problem on our end. Not your CPUs.

2)Mousewheel support is on our list of stuff to do.

5) Yeah, we could add sorting options to the research list...I'll add it to my lists of requests.
