Not sure what exactly was happening on screen at the time. Nothing too unusuall as I recall though.

Here is the end of the debug file. If you need to see it all give me a link to send it to.

These are the first two crashes I have had with beta 3. It has been very stable for me up to this point. The game I am in right now is on a gigantic galaxy and it is very late in the game.

Hope this gets cleared up. I would really like to finish this one. ;)

Alien13c,

I have seen each of the errors you show here without any sign of a crash, and have seen them for many builds. I don't see how anything here is going to help the SD people solve the bug. Do you have SmartException installed AND working? These crashes are very often the result of an abnormal operation in the code that causes the program to terminate. An SE report with the address of the error and the register contents is usually the only SURE way of solving such a problem.

How is SmartException supposed to work? I have it installed, but I am not sure what I am supposed to do with it when I encounter a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

If installed it should show up in the desktop tray on the right side (where the clock shows up). If it is working it will open a screen automatically when a program "trap" is encountered. A "trap" is when an application (GC is an application) tries to do something the computer's processor considers undoable. E.g., an access violation (trap 5) is an attempt to address memory that is not assigned to the application, and a zero divide (I forgot the trap number) is an attempt to divide by zeros. A trap causes the OS to intercept the application, and if SE is installed correctly, the OS will pass the trap information to SE. SE then converts the data into readable text and stores it into a file that you can post here or send to Cari at Stardock.

SmartException is not working for me then. I ran it once and I was told to restart the computer for it to take effect. Did so, but no icon in the system tray.

Any ideas?

BTW- Not at home computer right now so I cannot try anything till later.

I too have had numerous crashes with 3b; sometimes, once every turn... I seem to recall from looking at the error file yesterday, something similar to ships leaving orbit, and a ship being destroyed- though when I reload, I can't replicate the CTD, but it will happen on doing something else, thus:

Here is a copy of a SE/cra file

The linik is in the thread "Get Smart Exception" by Frogboy (Brad Wardell). Download the file and execute it. It self installes, then you have to reboot to activate it.

Daft? Not so. That question has been asked many times on this forum but the threads roll off the forum into the archives and the more recent joiners don't get to see them.

Stardock guys want us to run SmartException It would be smart for them to post the link and how to submit a crash log on the main page.
