Beta3: Minor bugs and impressions

Well done guys, this game is pretty neat. One of the things I'm most impressed upon is the GUI. It looks much better compared to MOO3 (least I think it does).

Just a query tho, the background music during the galactic screen, did you compose that yourself? Because it sounds identical to the background music from Star Control 2.

Few bugs that I've noticed:
(1) The research screen with the 'Trade' tech has a few spelling errors in the future tech bit on the bottom right. eg, "x something".

(2) In the diplomatic screen, it shows me having 1 influence point when infact I had 1891. It wasn't untill I attempted to trade some influence points that the screen updated.

(3) Minor race planets can still be taken over by trading all your technology. I managed to conquer a few minor races by trading tech early in the game.

(4) When I took over a minor race via trading tech, I noticed the planet was building colony ships? Is this suppose to happen?

I've not only seen them build colony ships but build colonies and start to spread! It's hard to imagine them putting that capability by mistake. I like it!

I read here that minor civ where not totally passive, they where just less likely to expand than the major ones. I like it too.

I thought the only difference was that minor races cound'nt win.

And also i dont like idea of trading planets for tech's maybe planets for planets would seem a better balance.

Yes, some planets are undervalued. I was able, playing
with average opponents, to pull the following trick :

wait for the major bully (that I kept happy with me) to attack a feeble civ, and then trade all my considerable techs in exchange for all his planets except one. The remaining planet could not use the tech advance to produce starship to repell the bully in time. I did this two times, gaining 6 planets for a very minimal effort. Civs should not endanger their survival in exchange for techs... It may need some tuning in the relative values of the commodities in the diplomatic screen.

On the same subject, I have found that the AI is eager to trade very minor techs against colony ship. If you get a lead start in tech, you can concentrate your production on social building and get some colony ships nearly free. Note : this is not a bug, this is a tip that I enjoy using, but I thought it was worth mentionning.

Umm...I thought that we'd replaced that...you may need to update your multimedia files.

(1) Actually, it's a problem with that font, the capital X is spaced weird. There are probably spelling errors, too, though, in all the data files. Before release we'll run them all through spellcheck.

(2) If you mean on the screen where you have the trading, it doesn't show how much money you have in the "We Have"/"They Have" lists...they're just default offers. Once you make an offer, it will show that by default, at least until you leave the screen.

'I thought the only difference was that minor races cound'nt win.'

The difference between major and minor civs iss that majors start with the two ships and 1000bc that you get, and minors do not.

They may also be unable able to win, but that shouldn't ever be a consideration anyway, simply because of the head start the six major races have.
