A newbie question about Pre-Ordering

Sorry if this is a double post, I posted this once but it hasnt shown up, im not sure if I hit the wrong button or something and deleted it instead of posting it.

Anyway, im ALSO sorry if this question is answered somewhere, ive looked around the site as best I can but im on a dial-up connection and a slooooow Labtop for the next couple weeks and I just couldnt handle the load times any longer.

My question is this. I am real excited about GCII, and I saw that if you preorder you get some extra stuff. Im specifically interested in the extra ship parts you can get. What I wanted to know is, can I only get those parts through preordering from this website? Or can I get them if I go and preorder at my local gamestop?

Thanks for reading, hope someone can answer this for me.

You'll be able to get them if you pre-order from EB Games or Gamestop.

Great! Thanks .

One more question... Will they give me a preorder disk or something like that? or is there some other way that I have to go about getting the preorder items?

I just want to make sure that I get whatever it is I need when I preorder.

ok.. ran over to my Gamestop tonight and you cant get it from the store. Drat .. looks like im gonna have to live without the extra ship design parts.

Hopefully this game will have an active modding community adding in new stuff on a regular basis though.. so no biggie.

Thanks for your help.

How will this exactly work? Let's say I ordered from Gamestop. Do they give me a PIN number or whatever so I can use that to later download the extra material or will there be special "pre-order" boxes with exta material included in them? How will you know I pre-ordered?

is there anyone in charge who could clear up how the whole preorder thing works? im ready and willing to preorder at gamespot if it will net me the extra stuff .. honestly Ill probably preorder there anyway.. soon as I get my comp back an im sure ill be able to play (im on ****heap right now).. but id just like to know how the preorder items will be distributed.... do i have to go through certain channels? or can I preorder from the store here in my town?

I already went to my store and they said that there was nothing in the computer about any extras that come with setting a preorder for the game... but i didnt consider that there might be "preorder boxes".

So..yah.. please.. can someone lay this out in black and white?

I just read on ParadoxPlaza that there is also a "limited Steelbook edition with Galactic Civilization II goodies." Can someone elaborate on this (as well as US/UK availability)? I don't care where I preorder from (local store, Gameplay.com, etc) so long as I'm getting the premium package.

I believe that the extra content will be available once you have registered your product code with Stardock's content management program, which will then download the extra's as updates. As to the physical extra stuff that comes in the box, i.e. fold out tech tree etc... I guess you'll get all that in your box if you order it from your local GameStop or EB Games, although if in doubt hit the pre-order button on your left and pay for shipping (US -> UK is $10, although I did have to enquire about that via email as it doesn't tell you actual shipping costs anywhere).

Paradox is the European publisher of GalCiv II, so none of this applies to you if you buy it from them in Europe (you need to ask them directly).

The North American version of GalCiv II is pre-orderable from retailers like Gamestop, EB Games and Amazon.com (this is still being setup, but they should be getting their pages ready soon). Much like with Civ IV, our aim is that if you order from a retailer now you will be automatically upgraded to the Collector's Edition version when this all goes through. More retailers for the CE version may be added in the near future and we'll let you know when that happens. The Collector's Edition version will sport a spiffy box, fold-out tech tree, and a GalCiv II desktop theme (downloadable using a special keycode included in the package).

Hope this helps.

Yarlen,

For those of us who are getting the game through TGN directly, could there be a small upgrade fee to get the spiffy box version?

I don't know, but I'll inquire. I wouldn't get my hopes up, however.

Update:  There will be an "upgrade" path for those who have already pre-ordered GalCiv II's electronic version only (those who pre-ordered the CD version will be getting a Collector's Edition box copy).

The current thinking is this:  If you pre-ordered GalCiv II for electronic download only either standalone or via TotalGaming.net using Tokens, you will have the opportunity to "upgrade" to the Collector's Edition box for a shipping & handling charge (~$9.95 in North America).  If you received GalCiv II as part of TotalGaming.net's Phase II transition, you will be able to "upgrade" to the boxed Collector's Edition for ~$19.95 plus shipping & handling.

There'll be more info on this down the line once it's all finalized and setup. Until then, things are subject to change.

Cookie for Yarlen! That's very good news!

Thanks, Yarlen! Well, I guess I'll be sinking $20 more into Stardock

(Any way we could burn 2 tokens instead?)

Nope. Creating actual boxes, printed manuals, etc. isn't cheap.

Oh, well... I think it's still going to be worth $20 to a number of the rollover crowd to get the pretties.

9.95 is worth it me thinks. Thanks for the update.
