noob question: alliances

seems like a really simple question probably, but in the game, i cant seem to make alliances with other empires, and as a result at one point or another die a horrible death as all of them attack me!!! i research the right stuff and am able to creat an alliance (it tells me so) but i dont know how to do it!!!
plz help

gotta make wichever empire you're looking at like you. Trade with them. Give them things.....whisper sweet nothings in their ear. There may be a better way than mine....but I usually start giving them things....like old ships or technology. You'll see your relations improve. Once it gets to Friendly (I think) and you've researched Alliances then you'll see an option to create an alliance.

It has to be warm rather than friendly, friendly is still one level too short.

You get the Alliance option in the diplomtic screen if you have researched alliances and if you have a relation of 'close' or better with the alien civilization.

Just to clarify: Warm is one level less than friendly. I think you have to be "Close" which is one level above friendly.

Yes, close is what you are looking for. Sometimes if I have enough bc, I try to give 100 every other turn to mellow them.
