I know where I belong

Once, in a time long ago
the world was lit
by kerosene lamps
nothing short of brilliant and old-worldy
and I find myself wandering
back to a time
when life was much simpler
and lines were much more defined.

When time stood still at every passing
and everyone knew your name
life was not a sidenote
to the whole sordid affair of business.
The steel plants hummed and churned
out black black smoke
and men sang rusty lullabys to their children at night.

But though I find myself wishing
for the olden days, sometimes
I know I'd never take them if offered
Because
I see your smile
and I know where I belong.
