Blizzard Shuts Down WoW Accounts

18,000 Banned from WoW

Blizzard has announced the closing of more than 18,000 accounts for its popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. Those closings came over the period of three months, roughly 200 accounts per day, and targeted the annoying gold and item farmers that use third-party add-ons to control multiple accounts or outright cheat.

Blizzard also reiterated that the selling of accounts and in-game items such as gold, items and characters is strictly forbidden and can result in a permanent removal of all accounts in connection to such activity. The developer claims that a "portion of the account closures announced today came as the result of tips reported to our Gms" and reminds players to continue to report any suspicious activity to [email protected].
