The factors behind population growth

Which factores and how are they involved in your population growth?

I assume that your pop bonus and the planet rating are involved and the growth is proportional with the current pop. But what about morale/approval rating and is there a populatio cap due to planet rating?

I would guess the terran social scientist should let the Emperor know about these things (birds & bees LOL )

Behin,

I guess the best answer is all of the above and then some. You are correct that morale plays a part in growth, the lower the morale the less growth (it used to be with 40% stopping growth all together, but in build 3A it looks like this may have changed to 50%), and each planet class does have its own population cap. However, I think planet class affects growth indirectly, in that class determines morale and morale affects population growth. At least, that is what I have come to believe.

A social scientist on the emperor's staff along with the other advisors? I like it.

Mmmm, I suppose that the planet class affect the max population, and that morale is reduced as the population reaches the cap. Just a guess, but the initial morale of a colony (without any improvement at all) change with the population, and start decreasing when it become more populated.

The growth is probably a % of the total pop, but I'm not sure, as I saw a colony gained through UP (planet mine with 0 pop) slowly gain population...

Richelieu,

You are correct. Population DOES decrease morale as it grows. Morale also affects the amount of growth, until morale hits a point where growth ceases or until the population hits that planet class's cap.

I have seen the same as you with a colony gained through a UP issue, with the population starting a 0. I have not understood why the planet didn't at least start with some population, nor have I understood how a planet with no population can have growth. I guess they (SD) had to work something out for that for now. Maybe we will see some changes in this before release date?

Three things affect population growth directly, from what I can tell: the planet's current population, it's morale, and your civilzation's population growth stat.

A planet's class affects population growth by altering it's morale, as does your tax rate, and your treasury, if negative.

Planets do have a max population, which is set by it's class, but with extremely low and extremely high classes, it's difficult to reach because of morale issues.
