need detailed game info

This game is fairly complex, in terms of economic simulation. That's a good thing, but the current game manual is inadequate to fully understand the game.

I need the formulas used in calculating the following:
Total Tax Revenue
Population growth
Approval Rating
Planet morale

These are the most important ones. I want the actual formulas with numbers, variables, and logical operators. If this kind of information is too technical for a regular game manuel, then put it in Appendix sections.
It would help me a lot, and others too.

How soon can I get this info?
The new game version has changed something in the formulas and now my best strategy doesn't work. My "approval rating" drops below 30% even with Tax rate being 0%. I need to know what's wrong

Each build I have tested has had something new in it that required a change to my strategy. And I would suggest that if SD did provide those formulas you are asking for (they could be propriatary) my guess is that something about them would change in the next build anyway.

So, to help you understand what happened to your game, maybe we should look at a few things.

1). What does your treasury look like? If it is below -500bc that is guarenteed to make your whole empire unhappy with you and drive the morale of all of your planets into a very dark whole. The only way out of this is to find some source of revenue that will bring your treasury back into the black (or green in this case). Setting your tax rate to zero does not help with this special case of bad morale. Try turning the "spending rate" to zero instead.

2). How much of your expenditures are debts? Did you buy too many ships or social projects on time? Once your monthly payments for these debts exceed what you can generate as revenue you are in very serious trouble. At the Beta 3a level of the code I know of no way to recover from this, but I have asked SD to consider giving us cash back when we disban ships, and I think I should have includied cash for disbanning social projects as well.

3). Did you establish any trade routes? If not, this is a source of revenue you could use to augment your spending on ships and social projects.

Cheers,

I didn't go into debt, I didn't buy anything from other empires. And I didn't have trade routes. All that effects the treasury, which is not the source of my problem.

Even tho Stardock people may change formulas in the next update, it's still months away. It takes no more than 2 hours to write down the formulas I asked for.
After reading some posts here, I notice other people are also interested in this information.

As for propriatary nature of the formulas, I highly doubt that. Those formulas could work only with this type of game. And other game developers got plenty of their own formula ideas.

So what's happening with my request? Am I gonna get the formulas or not? And why not?
Does anyone else think this info is irrelevant?

Tey building moral improvements. People don't like being crowded in like sardines, most of the time.

'Am I gonna get the formulas or not?'

You almost certainly won't get the formulas. For one, most of them apply at a per planet basis, which makes trying to figure them just short of impossible if you want to play more than one turn a day.

seeing the formulas would help me understand the game better. I wouldn't actually try plugging in numbers and calculating stuff

I build moral improvements as soon as I can so that's not the issue.

The fact is: when you place Income Distribution at 100% on any of the 3 fields, then approval rating quickly drops to 10%. Why?

Master Lame,

Most of the rest of us have devined the "formulas" you are asking for. That is part of the game. In truth, I suspect that "formulas" is, perhaps, the wrong term. Perhaps "tables" would be better. I have built tables that show what class planet has what morale without morale improvements at what population, what morale without growth improvements gives what percent growth, etc. I have since thrown these tables out because they became both utterly complex and useless as new features were added. And I suspect that the tables I devined would not match any someone else devined, or the real tables in the game. Try using your own experience with the game to get a sense of this.

I don't understand why Stardock would refuse to give this information, as it should be part of general game guide.
And you don't answer my real question: why does approval rating drop significantly when Income Distribution is focused on 1 field at a time?

Master Lame,
to answer your last question you need to consider the whole economic situation. Each planet has research, military and social spending POTENTIALS. If you set spending at 100% and your sliders to 100% on research/military/social you use ALL of this particular POTENTIAL. Obviously you can not use all three types of POTENTIAL to the max simultaneously. Planets can often have different amounts of research, military and social POTENTIAL.
Your empire as a whole however only has a certain amount of INCOME to spend on planets. The level of INCOME depends on taxation, trade, population, moral, treaties and bonuses.
In most cases your INCOME is never high enough to match your POTENTIAL, and so you reduce your spending to a level which you can afford, given the slider settings you want. It is important to keep trace of your income and youre expenses. NEVER let your credits fall below zero. This has huge consequences.
Always keep a close eye on your income and spending as this changes from turn to turn.

I would assume your approval rating drops when all resources are places in one field due to the wasted POTENTIAL in the other fields. All those scientists and builders can't be happy if all the money is being spent by the military!

Try checking your income. It's tied at least partly into your production, and research is not considered production.

If your spending money significantly faster that you're earning it, your morale will go down, even if your treasury is solvent, unless you have a very large treasury (like say, something in the area of 100 teracredits).

you people either missunderstand me or don't understand me at all. I don't want assumptions and guesses, I want facts, and facts that actually relate to the question I ask. Forget it.

I understand what you're asking... but I don't know the answers so I've kept my mouth shut :p

We tweak the formulas on a regular basis and it's not trivial to post them because they are in many different places.

When the game gets closer to release, we'll put out more data on how things get calculated.

For now, playing the game is your best bet.
