Did moral(e) and income algorithms change?

Because from 3A to 3B:

1 - my people went from being basically easy to control to being impossible to keep happy. I'm completely unable to build moral(e) improvements fast enough to keep them above 50%.

2 - My income seems to fluctuate wildly from month to month. One month I'm +20, then I'm -20, and nothing's changed. There's some weird stuff going on.

jpub,

Are you talking about the early, middle, or late part of a game?

Are you playing a game on 3B that you saved on 3A?

Is your treasury solvent?

Are you playing "evil" or "good"?

I don't think anyone is going to be able to help you untill you can explain more about the situation/environment around your problem.

I'm not sure what "part" of the game. I assume middle - I've extended out as far as I'm going to, I'm basically building and stealing planets from people who irritate me every once in a while.

Game started in 3B.

Solvent? Hoeck, I'm lucky if it stays in the black!

Mostly neutral. Only time I take a foray into evil is when the "tasty disease" event comes around, and that's only when I'm really short on cash.

The problem, as I've stated is that my morale always goes down the drain - I build morale improvements as fast as I can, I focus on morale advances, and yet my people are still unhappy. I don't get it. Thus, I'm asking if the formulas for determining planet morale has changed.

'Solvent? Hoeck, I'm lucky if it stays in the black!'

That's your problem. If your running a deficit, your morale will go down.

If your treasury falls below minus $500 bc it will only take a few turns for the morale of all of your planets to go down to 1. When morale reaches bottom like this the only way to recover is to set your spending to 0 and hope (or start a new game and keep a closer watch on your treasury). I hope you aren't changing your tax rate much. I usually start at 40% and leave it there until I get to a point where my economy allows me to run my spending to max and still have more income than tribute + outgo.

If your moral collaspes like this and your treasury falls to -500 then SELL things. It's the only way out of this problem. Other races will pay lots for good technologies or a planet. Usually a decent ship or two will be enough.

Whenever this happens to me and I try to sell things, I can't because all of the aliens are in the hole worse than I am... like -$5000 credits..

Minor races are usually solvent until someone gets them to commit to tribute.

Often for me the minor races are also in serious debt. I think I do this to them by selling things to them for as much as I can get, then, because they only have a planet or two they can never recover. At least the major races seem to be able to recover now.
