Help, Please!

Hi Folks,

Can't anyone figure out why I can't get the game? Exodius' difficulties were resolved in a couple of days. I purchased the game nearly three weeks ago, and still no success getting it to show up when I launch DGM. I really want to play this, even though it's just a beta. Everything I read here, plus all the screen shots, really have me psyched up, and it's highly frustrating to be waiting this long.

I can't belive my system is so unusual that it has caused some uinique problem. I've got a Dell Inspiron 8200, 1.8 GHz P4 processor, 512 MB memory, running Windows XP Home Edition.

Please, somebody, help me out!

So you've done everything everyone else has done I'm assuming, but for the sake of repitition...
You have show betas on right?
You have the newest version of DGM right?
You don't have a firewall right?
Your serial number is correct in the registry, you don't have to keep entering it when you start the DGM right?

I actually don't know how they solved Exodius' problem, but I also assume you have been talking with Stardock and they're trying to help you?

Yes, I've got "Show Betas" checked. and I think I have the newest version of DGM--recently when I tried to connect, I got a message that it was updating, so I imagine it's the latest. I'm not behind a firewall, and the serial number appears to be fine. For a breif period, the expiration date was showing as 1900, but that has gone away and it is correct now. My address disappears everytime I try to connect [I quit re-entering it], but the remainder of the info stays put.

Yes, I'm in contact with Stardock, altho, except the other day thru this forum, it's been a while since I've heard anything from them. I realize that they've got many other things to take care of besides me, but I'm a bit worried that my problem is getting lost in the shuffle, which is why I decided to post here and hope it might catch their eye.

As I said, nearly three weeks is quite a while to wait, especially when I see other people having their problems solved relatively quickly. So,hopefully, they'll figure something out soon.

Send Pat Ford another e-mail. He doesn't watch this forum much and depends on the other SD people to give him an alert when he needs to see a post.

Have you tried re-entering your info (address, etc) since you stopped having the problem with the expiration date?

I couldn't remember whether I had, so I tried it just now. No change, however. The "Games" window remains empty.

Did you try re-installing the DGM?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled about a half-dozen times. I've also gone to the registry and eliminated all registry entires, as was suggested in another post here, then reinstalled. But, none of this has improved the situation. I'm no closer to connecting to GalCiv today than I was three weeks ago when I bought the game.

And now it's the weekend, so most likely nothing will happen 'til at least Monday--altho, the way things are going, I'll be thrilled if something DOES happen Monday.

Did you e-mail Pat Ford?

Two or three days ago. When I first contacted him with the problem, he responded quickly and eventually sent me a new version of DGM to run and send the debug file to him.

However, altho I've emailed a few times since, including a couple days ago, I haven't had a response from him since 5 November. At first, I figured he was trying to figure out what was wrong and would get back to me when he did. Eventually I emailed him again, but no response. Then Exodius posted his similar problem here and I thought, "Well, at least it's not just me." However, in a matter of days, his problem was solved. I again emailed Pat Ford, plus uninstalled and reinstalled just in case solving Exodius' problem had entailed changes on Stardock's end which would also help me. No such luck, however, and no response from Stardock, with the exception of a post or two by a couple of their people, basically advising me to contact Pat.

I'm not interested in getting anyone in trouble, and I understand that with all the updates going out recently [three this month?] that it's easy to forget about one dude's problems. Like I said above, I posted here simply in hopes of attracting some Stardock person's attention, to remind them I'm still in need of their assitance. Maybe my emails haven't gotten to Pat for some reason. Stranger things have happened.

As I said, I've got a common machine, a Dell, and what I imagine is the most common OS, Win XP, and I'm not dealing with a firewall, just a simple 56k dial-up connection to MSN [and, previously, Earthlink]. So, it would seem that somebody should be able to come up with a solution.
