LEGO + Star Wars = Cash Cow

SCi Group Still in Talks, Rolls Around in Money

In an update to its shareholders, the new Eidos owner, SCi Entertainment Group, has stated that they are still in discussions with possible buyers. The group announced last October that they had been approached and rampant speculation began flying about possible suitors, including industry giant Electronic Arts.

Aside from merger/buyout talk, SCi also reported that they had a good quarter, largely due to their every-single platform title, Lego Star Wars. SCi claims that the title has shipped over 3 million units since its release in April 2005. The heavy sales has encouraged them to seek more Lego tie-ins such as a Bionicle title set for 2007.

I hope that Eidos / SCi remain independant. It's not good for bigger publishers to simply keep gobbling up everyone else in this industry. Place has become stagnant enough already...

Agreed, I don't like publishers buying developers in general, but for the publishers it just makes sense to be able to control them more.
