Dead people wondering around school

Okay i wonder how many of you all have heard of the saying "Every 15 minutes and teen dies because of drinking and driving" Well my school puts on a program that has to do with that. They choose 24 seniors, 12 guys 12 girls, and they are simbolic dead for the rest of the day.They make sure that they get a diverse set of kids from different groups so that the program reachs out to every senior. When its your time to die the grim reaper comes and pulls you out of class and then a girl reads where you died and how its relivent to drinking and driving. Then you go and get white make up on your face and put on a black robe. For the rest of the day you dont speak to anyone. Inless you are talking to another dead person and in order to do that no one can see you. They want you to get into your roll. Your not suppose to smile or nod or do anything that an "Alive" person would do. I think its an exciting program and for the 24 seniors who are pratisipating incluing me it will be a day to remember for the rest of my life.

Yeah, we do that too. I was one of the dead people. Only problem? My friends didnt' understand what wuz going on and got pissed at me for ignoring them. All was forgiven though. :)

That is way cool. I'm going to share with my colleagues at the secondary level. A couple of days ago here in the Detroit area, two sisters were killed in the latest craze - jumping in a car after achieving a certain speed. Their brother was driving. They became airborn then hit a tree. I just heard on the news that the dad may be charged for letting the boy drive without a license. I cannot imagine the pain that that family is suffering right now. Teenagers so often don't realize the frailty of existence, and it can be a fatal mistake. It's up to us as adults to help with that. I certainly didn't realize how short my life actually could be when I was in high school. Now that I've hit 40, well............................................

That sounds really weird... but a good idea, all the same. I can't imagine it catching on here in the UK though.

Yeah, I did that in High School, too. I was a senior and "someone that everyone could relate to", or whatever that means. I'm a gregarious person, and I was the first one to be "killed", at 8:45 that morning. I had to go around for the rest of the day not talking to anyone, and it was difficult for me, to say the least.

It's a great program, though, and we were going to do it as an educational program when I was an RA, but it was decided that we couldn't because it was a "scare tactic" and we were changing our philosophy to one of "positive norming". Still, it's a very sobering experience.
