Allen "The Dark Lord" Rausch has got his hands on Gamma 1 of Galactic Civilizations II and gives an in-depth look at what he's seen in the game.

Allen Rausch was also the person who reviewed the original Galactic Civilizations for GameSpy 3 years ago (how time flies) so he knows definitively where the game originally came from.

Are all the maps 4x4, or are the posted ones just for examples?

The ones posted are just examples. I don't know what the max size map is, but I've heard Stardock mention maps of at least 15x15 before.
