John Romero has hit the headlines again thanks to some information he dropped on Computer and Video Games. In the interview Romero commented that he has jumped on-board a start-up company who is entering the market with an MMO.
"I started looking at what I was going to do next, so I looked around on the net and I saw there was an opportunity for an MMO, there was a person starting an MMO so I contacted him," Romero told them. "We talked for hours on the phone, we had a lot of common interests and ideas about this title and so basically this guy was really excited, brought me on as a co-founder of the company and I've been here for almost four months now."
Romero would not divulge any specific information on the title, or even the developer he now is co-founder of. He assured the gaming public that he does indeed love MMOs and that they plan to make this one vastly different from the norm. Stating "this is not a typical games company and we're not making typical games."
Romero had his hand in Gauntlet last, before leaving/being fired from Midway, depending on whom you believe. He did specify that his new project is much larger than Gauntlet. "It's a lot of money, this is the most money I've ever spent on a game - in Gauntlet it was like $10 million, but this is much more," Romero commented.
Maybe this MMO will have a chance against World of Warcraft?
