Basically, when one cuts through all the high-sounding rhetoric, this is nothing more than an ends justify the means argument. But if Bush were truly interested in giving Democracy its best chance of survival in Iraq, there is a lot more he could have done: 1) admit to the Iraqi people, as well as Americans, that we had made a mistake in supporting Hussein in the 80's despite knowing that he was using chemical weaponry against the Kurds (amongst o

My take on all of this? I work at a convenience store. We sell lidded coffee cups for about $4 or $5 bucks plus tax, with refills costing 79 cents. However, to fill a new, "plastic" (well, it's not really plastic, but I don't know what it's made out of, so I'll just stick with that) cup costs between 99 cents and a buck 29. Yet people will insist on getting one of the new cups every day despite that a "permanent" cup would pay for itself in, let's
What is Leopold? Think of it as chess, except you get to choose your own pieces (and some of these pieces can create their own pieces as well). Oh, and it's online and it's absitively, posolutely free (and if it had any spyware or adware, you can believe I wouldn't be promoting it). Unfortunately, one of the major drawbacks of the game is that it seems to have a ra
Hope you don't mind a couple of quick comments: 1) "I don't believe in god neccessarily so I must be dumb?" I don't think he meant that at all. "Dumb", at least as it's used popularly (it originally meant just not able to speak), means unable to learn something that should be fairly easy to learn; "uneducated" means not given the opportunity to learn something. And why do you think that that's any less insulting than being labelled
I realize this article isn't really about voting or not voting, but you did mention it, so I hope you don't mind my adding my views on the subject. In short, I'd rather vote on the offchance that I'm doing some good than not vote and hope for the best. While in the long run it might not have mattered- the end results would have been the same even if I hadn't voted- I'd rather say that I did all that I could than wonder some time later whether there w
At approximately 9 PM PST on June 15, 2004, a mysterious individual, known variously as Emoticon Man or Earthbound Misfit, deviously created a weblog at joeuser.com. Such a hideous affront to the natural order should not be left to go unchallenged. Should you risk venturing into such a site, prepare yourselves, lest you should be shocked and appalled by the rantings
Hmmmm... shortly after Bush declares that the "enemy combatants" captured in the Iraq war aren't entitled to protections afforded to prisoners of war by the Geneva Convention (thus implying we're free to treat them however we please), we get the whole Iraqi prison mess. I'm not saying that Bush or anyone in the administration authorized such torture, but they seem to have created the climate and conditions for it to occur.
