Korean culture is very quick to pin the blame on an official for something that probably had deep roots...Koreans hate to admit that abnormalities of mind or body are even possible in their race Yeah, I did kind of dodge the cultural part but it does heavily factor into this situation. Regardless of th

Congrats on coming home! Hope your trip passes quickly and quietly.
I first heard about this tragic news yesterday. You can read about it here - S.Korean media want minister out over DMZ shooting . My heart goes out to the families of the Soldiers involved. The reason cited for this attack was verbal abuse from senior Soldiers. Now,
Nice review! Taxis are not for the faint of heart. I had a couple of exciting rides a few years back. Once, we were driving at breakneck speed through the fog. We could barely see past the front end of the car. The whole time, the guys in the back (all non-linguists) kept asking me to slow the guy down. Everytime I asked, he laughed! Another time, we had a group riding back in two cabs. The drivers decided to race. There we were driv
Sorry it took so long to answer this. Many soldiers go to Korea without their family for a year. This doesn't exactly start them off on the right foot. Another problem is that often the soldiers is under 21 and this is their first time away from home, let alone another country. They get drawn into the local bar/shopping district because the language barrier is less there and they can get drinks without being ID'd. This becomes a very dif
They certianly didn't make me score well, I am just a freak like you. Meant to add - We had a few grads in the most recent class that scored 3/3/2. I think they would admit that they were fairly equal parts "self-made" and "instructor-created" freak. The teaching teams do a good job of motiv
Well I had that score as well but I think a lot of it has to do with the lacksadaisical attitude of the civilian faculty unless that has changed? They certianly didn't make me score well, I am just a freak like you. I think that the attitudes, in general, have improved since you and I were students, but
Once again we're not supposed to treat terrorist scum as bad as we treat our own troops. I remember an exercise where I had to spend a few days at the interrogation tent waiting for repair parts for my truck. When we moved from one place to another, the engineer unit came out and dug the POW hole but t
At what cost? I would rather sacrifice a little of my morality than ANY of my children. How bout you? Is your morality more precious than your family? Your friends? Your fellow citizens?A lot of people talk about the high ground, but I would be willing to bet that if they were in a room with a terrorist that had information that
We'll be getting our new input of students tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it. We're conducting an experiment here at DLI and I'm going to be one of the MLIs that gets to participate. Some of the other schools have already started this program, but this will be the first time we try it out in the Korean school. Instead of our normal input of 30 stu
Handsome gentleman in uniform + beautiful young lady (lady in red at that)= lovely couple I think your algebra is a bit buggy! That variable does not exist in this equation! HAHAHAHA! Thanks!
That's very cool of them. Indeed! I called the one in Mililani, and not only do they not do the 50% discount for service members in uniform, but they don't offer any mili
Lucky bugger! I know!
You two make a nice looking couple Chip! Thank you!
Is this everywhere, or just where you're at? If it works here, too, Adrian will be donning his BDUs when we eat out from now on, hehe. I don't know. I was too surprised to ask when they told me about the discount. Definetely worth a try, though. Worst case scenario, you still pay regular price but yo
Just got my hands on the memory card for the camera and looked over the pictures from the Army Ball. There were some really nice ones of my wife but most of the ones of the two of us together didn't turn out so well (insert joke about me here). Either the camera was moving or the lighting was bad! Oh, well, we did get a photo package done, so hopefully those will t
Stopped at the new Chili's in Seaside on the way home from work today for some take out. My wife wanted the Triple Play Combo and I got the Monterey Chicken (thought about calling it the Seaside Chicken since the Chili's is in Seaside, not Monterey) for myself. When they gave me the total, I had to ask if they had it right. Turns out, Chili's gives a 50% discount t
Next time I go to one, I'll be able to wear my CAV stetson and spurs. What fun. Now that's Huah! I think the CAV extras are really nice and it's cool that they are earned. A lot of tradition there.
Well.....lets see a picture! That will be the subject of a post later this week. My wife plans to upload the pics to her site but won't let me touch the camera until she does! HAHA!
As I posted last week, I attended the Army Birthday Ball on Friday. It was a few days early, but also as I stated before, the Army is old and doesn't like to party on a weekday, just like me. Well, not just like me, the Army is 230 years old, I'm only 34. But still, we both prefer to celebrate on a weekend rather than a work night. I was surprised by the
Better to be a liberal republican than a conservative democrat any day! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Very nice! Thanks for sharing this. I had a great laugh!
My wife and I are going to the Army Birthday Ball tonight. It's a little early, but the Army is is old and just like a person, it doesn't really want to celebrate on a weekday. It'd rather do it's partying on the weekend! This will be my first ball after nearly 13 years of service. Never had the desire to go before, really. In fact, I'm only going out of some min
Good luck with the inspections! I remember doing that when we returned from Haiti and from JRTC (Hawaii's standards were always much more strict than the mainland). Was hard enough doing it there. I can't imagine having to do it in the desert with the sand! Take care and good to hear from you again.
Good news! Hope the interview works out for you. You've both had to go through enough hassle as it is! Good luck to you.
