All skins on this site must be used in conjunction with their respective applications. For example, a skin with a .dxtheme extension must be used with DesktopX. Here is a complete list. Personally, I like LiteStep on my 98 partition. It is highly configurable and there are oodles of themes available. If you do decide to dive in though, I would offer this advice. Read as much as possible about before beginning, and... If you get an error that says Windows needs to be re-installed, DON'T PANIC! Re-boot with a boot disk, at the prompt, go to your C:/Windows directory and type: "edit sys.ini" and change the lines that reads "shell=litestep.exe" to "sh

So, Microsoft has the most security holes, huh? I don't think so. Open source software is now the major source of elevated security vulnerabilities for information technology (IT) buyers. Security advisories from Cert for the first 10 months of 2002 show that open source and Linux software accounted for more than half of all advisories. The poster child for security glitches is no longer Microsoft; this label now belongs to open source and Linux software suppliers. - Aberdeen Group

Do you have LiteStep installed? http://www.litestep.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=286 If you have never used it before though, I would HIGHLY recommend that you read as much as possible about it before you begin. It's not the most user-friendly shell enhancement/replacement that a newbie can use. LiteStep will not mess up your system, but you very well could if you don't know what you are doing with it.

I guess the only reason that I haven't gone to Winamp 3 fully yet is because of its incompatibility with Winamp 2 skins (mainly Logika and UniverseMetal). Older skins don't skin the Winamp Thinger, so I prefer to stick with 2.81.

I agree with Jobeleca. Opera is a prime example of adware that I don't mind at all. Programs or applications that use advertisements to help offset the costs of producing them are fine by me. That being said though, I absolutely cannot stand spy-ware. I run Ad-Aware on a fairly frequent basis to make sure that my system is free of it.

Barring Yahoo or Hotmail accounts on the basis that those who use them are "freeloaders" is not a valid argument and a fairly insulting one! I use web based mail exclusively, because I can check it when I am away from home and I have been an OD subscriber for two years.

I am experiencing the same thing. For instance, I have added "Component Manager" to the dock. Initially it is set as "cm", but I change it to read "Component Manager". Then, if I shut down the dock and restart it, the label has reverted back to "CM'. On another note, does any one know how to optimize the icons so that they are not so blurry?

Is there a setting that allows you to change or over-ride color schemes set by a Windowblinds skin? To be specific, I downloaded and would love to use "Ultraviolet", but the dark background in apps such as Internet Explorer and Word are just to hard on my eyes. I have tried using the "Colour Overrides" option under the advanced skin options, but that doesn't seem to work. Thanks.
