Unfortunately one of the problems in our society today is that the most vocal people are often the most negative. If people can complain they will. If someone is satisfied though then little is heard from them. The thing is the complains end up seeming to outnumber the satisfied ones but I know that is rarely true. So as a company you need to remember that there is more than one guage of a products success. You gotta learn to ignore the complaine

Nice article. You'd think the companies could be a little more forward thinking about bandwidth. They knew HD was coming for quite some time, yet they added internet and digital phone to their offerings through the same little cable. Since that is their business they had to know this crunch was coming yet are seemingly unprepared for it. Personally I think there is far too much focus on a multitude of channels. How much time do people have to watch TV? If
I only listened to the Poweruser ones, but not even every time. Most of the time it was subjects I had already articles about which made it rather pointless to listen. It was fun often to hear Brads off the cuff remarks and anyone else, but in the end it was just repetition and nothing new.
snake: there is no change for existing users as mentioned above. We just get bumped up automatically to ODNT Ultimate, which is pretty kewl thing.
Pretty interesting stuff. I especially like the Virtual Desktop Preview. I don't particularly need a cube, but switching is slow on my machine, don't know if its faster with a cube system. I definitely think Stardock can do far more with WindowsFX on Vista, just not anything they have to show for it yet.
Personally I don't see the point of changing wallpaper a lot, I hardly see it. So definitely the OS skin would be tops, also there have been so many good WB skins coming out that you just want to use them all.
I updated and it took a lot longer than I thought it should and I didn't even have a full install, only about 66mb. Otherwise I didn't notice any difference afterwards.
I saw the title and I thought it meant that Downtime needed some Support. As in the Support the Troops, so you needed help with down time :P Of course I read the rest so I knew I was incorrect but....
Well I have it set to go to sleep in 4 hours. I'm not at home atm, so I'll have to double check, maybe there is a setting I could set that will change this. Good to hear someone has it working fine so maybe I can as well.
Oh ya forgot to add, how come there is no link to view what changes were made for the program with the updates? I like to check because sometimes it isn't critical to update for me just yet or I'm just curious what changed.
I really like the program overall. Just I agree with a couple others that it seems odd that a company that has skinning as a main component does not allow the impulse program to be skinned. Also I do not see the Iconpackager update mentioned showing in impulse or SDC. I have other updates that go backwards in impulse though hehe.
Apparently no one has noticed this or cares about it lol. It is ironic that I want it to sleep and stop "dreaming". I just do care about conserving energy when away from the pc and Dreams keeps it running.
Not only contests for the lesser galleries, but more focus on them in general. Perhaps when a new skin is posted for a lesser gallery it is highlighted somehow, either with a post or special area simply to draw attention to other fine work besides the mainstays of WB, Wallpaper, IP, OD. Encourage people to post proper screenshots as well. There are often times I won't bother with a skin simply because the artist either got too fancy with the SS or didn't include enough information (for exam
No issues with Silverlight here on Vista using Firefox. I haven't really gone to many pages using it yet but it seems to be a pretty cool piece of software.
As near as I can tell with mostly casual check but it appears my Vista pc won't sleep with Dreams running. I suppose that is understandable considering what it does, but I would like to use Dreams yet still have the ability to have it go to sleep when I'm not using it. Perhaps its simply a tweaking of the power settings? Otherwise I may have to stop using Dreams :(
Its very similar to the Molton one just a bit cleaner. Very nice.
Thanks Zubuz for the wayback link, I remember it back then as I was an early member of Wincustomize when skinz.org bit the dust. Interestingly enough that was when XP was fresh and now we have Vista which is fresh. Happy 7th Birthday WC!!
Winamp first drew me to what a skinning app could be like to use, then I was at skinz.org for awhile. I got hooked on Windowblinds and other programs there. Used to visit Stardocks site where they had skins and became one of the first to join Wincustomize when it was created, user no. 129. I've been here ever since. I'm not a skin contributor but try to give my input where possible. I also try to interest others in what goes on here.
I've been using Dreams for a little while since I recently got Vista Premium and it really is an exciting program to have funny. Its much better than most screensavers actually (even though I don't use a screensaver really, this gives you a reason to keep your monitor on) I'm also glad I don't have to get Ultimate to enjoy this software from Stardock that ultimately should be part of everyone's collection (if on Vista).
Great post. I got turned off long ago to PC games because even though I read the requirements, it still had difficulty working on my machine for the most part. Also for me I go for console games because they aren't as complicated. I just don't enjoy controllling a game with the keyboard, some do, but its too much for me to bother with for a game I wouldn't be playing very often anyway. I'm not the core type of gamer that is true, but even so PC games are usually over
I just think if we move to cellphones, etc it is going into a market not really served by the site, but gets away from its core reason for being. Some of the current areas do not get enough attention as it is, either with submissions or being properly organized (some have stated OD is poorly done for example). I guess I don't have really have interest in this are as well, but still feel we would get too far away from the core of Wincustomize. Will you have Cellcustomize then?
Of course if you get Object Desktop you get it for "free" :P
Its a very nice skin that I may use from time to time but more comfortable at the moment with a darker skin but like to lighten things up at times. I actually am enjoying the "glass" type skins since I have a fairly new pc and my previous had trouble at times with them, or least I couldn't use them to their fullest extent.
I totally agree that this site needs to be skinnable. It was before and I understood the reasons it wasn't implemented at first in the re-design but it has been promised to return and yet still hasn't. This must be possible to do even on a basic level. Yahoo, Google, MSN they all have pages that are skinnable. If you are concerned about the speed of loading the site, well those who want a fancier skin will have to make due with it loading slightly slower, though with broadband around that
I believe it works on both equally well though mainly made so it can work wit Vista as well where XP didn't. However I do get shadows which I didn't get before under just CursorXP. If you have the free CursorXP what have you got to lose by using the free CursorFX?
