Elie, the origins do not really matter. What does matter is that there are lots of people in the United States that celebrate that holiday as their own. Jews celebrate Chanukah, a totally secular holiday, Christians celebrate Christmas, which is deeply rooted in religious significance, why is it divissive for Blacks to celebrate a non religious holiday of their own? It is not interfering with anyone else celebrating theirs. Why the fuss?

Link According to this, there is nothing divissive about the holiday. The 'Thug" as you call him has a very proninent position in a very prominent university, which is why I used the word alleged in my last comment.
