Well I was going to write a big ol blog about the bad parts of our trip....but whats the point of just writing negative stuff....or mostly negative stuff. My girlfriend Marcie (JU: MarcieHelen) and I live in Las Vegas...and we wanted to go somewhere else for Thanksgiving since we are so far away from family anyways. She had the idea of going to San Diego a few mont

Holy crap...where ever did I say to teach Creationism? I dont think I said to actually teach it alone. I said that I feel that we should teach all major theories instead of evolution. Evolution hasnt been proven. It hasnt. How can you prove something evolves? By finding things in dirt and ice which you try to connect to what you are currently saying? People find a figure which they say represents a human being...and then they say it must be a

Biblical model of astronomy saying the universe orbits the earth? Where did you get this? My theory of evolution is: Big Bang...cosmic dust...giant mud ball...atmosphere, water...microscopic life forms...various creatures over many millenia....human being. Obviously thats a short version. There are many different views of evolution out there. Some people say that God started teh process of evolution..which would pretty convienently take c

Exactly right, There are many reasons how evolution could be proved; just as there are equally as many reasons that God created the universe. As a teacher, I need to teach your child in different ways. This helps them learn the concepts of what we learn. If they cant multiply one way, Ill use another strategy, or another, or another. By limiting what we are allowed to teach, we are limiting them as well. But, Im not necessaraly

OK...for this post, unlike my last one, whatever you want to say, say it. I just read in the news this morning that somewhere in the US, some people are freaking out over a sticker placed on science textbooks saying that evolution is a theory and not a fact. This whole evolution vs. creationism thing is getting really old, really fast and I t

OK...that last post of mine on Sunday was by my girlfriend, Marcie (ju: Marciehelen), not me. It is possible to state why or why not you think someone can get elected, without going into a political tirade...that is what I was aiming for. Daiwa...your post was fine. For example: I think she could get elected. Could being the main word here. I think she has a strong name recognition, she has most of the same views as

I don't know...frankly...I don't think Hillary would ever get elected. I think her lack of experience and her gender are definitely two strikes against her.

Ok well two out of five isnt bad. Reminds me of Kindergarten when I give directions and nobody follows them. I wasnt asking for political opinions...because people would go off and thats exactly what happened. Now, the question was...do you think that Hillary could possibly be elected. Not based on your own political opinions and dreams...but just do you simply think that she could possibly get elected. Also...someone the

Ok, I could go on about how depressed I got when I found out we get to keep George for another four years...but we somehow managed to get by on the last four...so what the heck. My question is, who do you think will be the next Prez? I havent really seen much talk from either party. Some Dems say Edwards, some say Hillary..etc. that leaves me wondering..

Doc...that is the weirdest thing, paying a school tax. It must have been a law that PA passed in order for schools to get some more funding. I have never heard of that before, but Im also not surprised...if schools dont get enough money..they can get a law passed giving them extra funding above what they get from state, local, and fed. I'd have to say that the districts must be very strapped for cash if such a thing happens

Drmiller, State and local taxes pay for most of funding of schools...about 90%. The other 10% comes from federal taxes. The problem here lies with the fact that some state and local taxes (ie...ghetto parts of missouri, and other poorer states) hardly pay for anything for school funding because of the low taxes and poor areas. You dont pay *state* school tax. You pay your state taxes...part of which goes to schools. Grim...it sounds like

Yesterday, Marcie and I went to a local shopping mall to take place in the early elections. She can tell you who she voted for. Thats her beeswax. I have no problem, and if you disagree with me....well we agree to disagree. Prez: John F. Kerry - I voted for him because...I agree with more of his stands than I do on Bush; and thats how I think anyone shoul

Peter, These people are coworkers...so they live down here in LV. I think growth is a great thing. Unfortunately...Las Vegas is growing, to me, much faster than it can handle.

I know this doesnt really fit in the Home Improvement category...but I cant find any other fitting category. About a month or so ago...I overheard one of my colleagues talking about how she and her husband just bought a piece of land outside of Las Vegas for 400 grand. This apartment complex, a condo...not a house. This isnt a area that is going to be a d

I dont arm chair the law...because I am forced against my will to work with it daily. I know the implementations of it and what does and does not happen as a result of that law. I have spent the last five years in college learning about the law because (and i know the thing hasnt been out for five years) of its large impact on education. As I said in the other article....NCLB did not do one thing to impact your childs education...it was the combined

They're adorable, K! (This is MarcieHelen...I'm to sleepy from a late night at the airport to switch my name). Be proud of your brood and yourself. I'd love to have you for a mom!

Man alive...I hate AOL. I seriously believe that the program was created for those who are incapable of learning how to use a regular internet browser. I have had AOL for the past 3 years. I think it has been more...but they say its been 1.5 years...but I changed my screen name and that whole issue was weird in and of itself. I started using it

Darn...I liked adding comments to the article against it. I agree with T-bone. I was just thinking about the whole private school issue tonight as well. With the bar constantly being raised...more schools will suffer because they dont get the funding they should get to help them improve the scores...which means more private schools get $$ and students. But they dont have to take the tests? Why not? Think about the funding issu

Madine...you took some of my quotes, so I will reply. There is nothing with lowering the bar. The bar only has one function...to go up. It wont stop, it wont slide down if the school needs more time to meet achievement...it only goes up. Im not whining. Lets say you were told you had to make your company 50% more money this month...and you didnt...only made 35%. Now...you didnt do what they wanted you to, so you can either continue this trend...or

NCLB is a federal law. There is supposed to be a whole lotta money behind it...but it is not there. The states are being forced to pay the bills for the testing and implementation of the law. If you listen to the candidates...they talk about the law. Bush says he increased ed funding. Well ed funding is increased every year...but the bill was not funded as he promised it would be. The problem with the law is that it is a federal law governing edu

Dont blame the teachers for teaching to the test. That is what they have to do. Almost forced. I am a teacher in a school district heavily influenced by NCLB. I think that most teachers would agree that the intentions behind NCLB are good...but the way the law is structured...it sucks. First, schools need to meet annual achievement levels that are set by the gov. My school just met their level for reading...some sort of reading achievem

I had to put in my topic...either Dem, Rep, or International. Im not really any of them...although Id have to say that for this topic...I am leaning towards Democrat. Stem Cell reserach. K~ Having an accident makes you totally not want to get into a car again. I had a car accident in 99...and I'm lucky that all I did was break my humerous. It still scares me to death. I can't stand going over the speed limit, and curves and what not terrify me. I'm completely paranoid. It's nice to have men in our lives that that force us to move on and to get back into those vehicles even when you're terrified and don't want to move.<

There are alot of people out there who believe that public education doesnt work. There are numerous reasons why they think this. Some say its because that God has been taken out of the schools. Some say teachers arent trained enough. Others say teachers are paid too much and dont care (paid too much? hello?!) Etc....the parents blame the failure of their child
