I have decided to purchase this game as soon as it comes back into stock at the price they had it before. It was going for £14.99 at Play.com, whereas Amazon wanted around £25.00 for it. They are very similar in many respects. You can conquer the galaxy by force, trade, conduct, etc, etc. Perhaps there is no tech tree in X2; perhaps the war aspect has been played down somewhat in GalCiv. I remember a teacher being in front of a class and asking if there was anything they wanted to know about the subject and the reply was "We don't know what we don't know" - or, in Mr Rumsfeld's opinion, ".. There are unknown unknowns. Those are things that we don't know we don't know."

Is the game in any way like Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire? It occurred to me that there is a similar choice of conditions for victory and a technology tree and a space theme. Neither of the two games I have mentioned will run on XP, but I remembered them with pleasure. Philip Tarbuck 4 Oct 04
