Would it be acceptable if a President put his hand on the Koran? If you think it is ok for the President to put his hand on the bible....you better make it ok for him to put it on any other religious document. Perhaps people who understand the importance of a seperation between church and state shouldn't be classifi

I don't see the relevance of the second study.I was referring to the deterrence offered by the severity of the punishment (like in my first post)... the second study refers to detering crime through legalizing and licensing of concealed weapons. It has to do with the fear factor. If you fear you wi

I would like to hear more. I don't really understand those who don't see the middle, or the opposite. I was raised to put myself in other peoples shoes, and try to understand them, your insite would mean a lot to me.

No there isn't! Show me one, just one, modern researcher/criminologist (or even just a study) that believes deterrence works for serious offences. http://www.ncpa.org/studies/s229/s229.html Link here is one..... http://www.leviz.com/

Reply #6 By: cactoblasta - 1/7/2005 8:20:13 PM I think you misunderstand the point of incarceration. It's primary purpose is to remove freedom from the prisoners. It's not designed to punish or to rehabilitate (which goes some way to explain why such attempts are nearly always failures). The level of care provided in pris

how do you plan to socialize them? In prison, who do they socialize with, other felons. What happens when they get out on parol and figure out that they can't offord the standard of living they had in prison? Especially since most employers will not hire a felon. Especially a violent felon or a theif. Nearly 33% of State prison releases in 1999 were drug offenders, 25% were violent offenders and 31% were property offenders. Amo

Faithful to Hitler, the Nazis picked out and specifically targeted the Jews, and they did this from the very beginning -- the Nazi Party Program of February 1920(1) to the very end Hitler's Testament of April 29, 1945.(2) In fact, Hitler had written a letter to a Herr Gemlich in 1919 in which he called for the removal of the Jews if he ever took power. <a href="http://veritas3.holocaust-history.org/jews-centr

Yeah...that's right....I remember hearing that before. Sorry. My mistake. I remember now; I saw him on a couple talk shows a long time ago, talking smack about his mom and her (non)beliefs. I saw them both together once. I think it was the old Phil Donahue show or something like that. Man, but she was a hardcore, high-iron

As far as the Holicost goes, if you were not "blond haired, blue eyed", German, and fit the "nose profile" you were deemed a Jew. The mentally/physically ill were also experimented on and executed. Persons of actually Jewish belifes were also experimented on. Pregnant women would have their legs bound together to see how long the mother and baby could live if birth was not allow to occure, and many other horrific things that are almost completely fo

Well, darn. Maybe someone needs to sue to get all those mithilogical religions out of school. And how do you teach about the holocost if you can't mention that the majority of victims were Jews? and persicuted for their religion. Or the core of native americans followed their animal Gods and the multitude of other Gods, or the Myans, or any culture for that matter. Guess we better just toss out history as a subject in schools. I went t

I have never been able to spell. And It's not a pro torture stance, torture would be putting them on the Rack, or hanging them by metal cuffs down the side of a wall with their feet not touching the ground, or all manner of actually tortures I could think of that in the distant past, have been used. The question is then, how to deter crime, esspecially when the prisons are just as good (or better) than a hotel. When the prisoners h

Extreme Punishment, what a joke! The only extreme punishment in the US would be the Death Penalty, and the odds of a murderer actually being A)Put on death row and B)Actually being executed are soo low, it's not worth the thought. Extreme Punishment wouldn't be 3 square meals a day, bed with clean linens and a laundry service, cable TV, Utilities, "yard pr

I absolutly hate shoping for cloths for my kids. I see some of most awful clothing for toddlers and young girls. As far as clothing goes, I'm sure my mom thought I was to easy to shop for and (in retrospect) is thankful for that. I was a tomgirl from the word go, but I also caught on (early on) that my dad really hoped I would be a boy. I thought Overalls RULED. as I go older, jeans and T's, and in Highschool (even now) if I wanted the sexy look, t
