I downloaded this last week, and have been having a lot of fun with it. It's got a lot of really nice features. I've already got a skin 3/4 of the way done for it! I really like the color mapping method compared to coordinates in a text file - reminds me of skinning Sonique.

Generally speaking, it's likely that the ratings won't always agree with the number of downloads or popularity. This doesn't mean that the rating system is broken - just think of it as two different ways of viewing people's opinions of your work. Raw download count shows how popular the wallpaper is. Ditto on the AV stuff - it's never interfered with skinning that I'm aware of. I used to use Sysmeter2 religiously, but it looks like the authors have dropped development of it and it's no longer available on their web site. Such a shame since it was a great product. There are a bunch of good skins out there for it, and it's easy to make your own. It also had the to-die-for capability to hook into the Performance Data Counter in NT/W2k (XP I suppose took since it's built on NT technologies).

Sounds like a neat idea to me. There are a couple of benefits that strike me right off the bat: 1) More apps would be skinned. Usually a skinner doesn't use all of the skinable apps, so only skins those that (s)he uses on a regular basis. That's what was cool about the Heavy Equipment theme - everything was skinned! 2) If I every worked on a team like this I'd never have to worry about creating wallpapers ever again! (since I hate to do them and have no talent in that area)

1280x1024. Although the other may be the aspect ratio that many are used to, I doubt that many people run at that (just a hunch, of course!). My reasoning is that the extra screen real-estate is much more important in the long run.

I'm assuming that you mean the date/time properties window, which is available from the control panel (at least on my machine, Windows 2000). If so, there's probably a better way (but since I'm lazy...) but you can simply run "timedate.cpl" The extension should be registered and the file should be in your %SystemRoot% directory (which is in your path), so it should work without a hitch.

Yes, you'll end up creating a new object for each function of the plugin - one to launch the default player, one to play, one to stop, etc. It sounds like it might be a lot of work, but it goes pretty quickly if you finish off one completely, clone it, and then make a couple of modifications as a way of creating the rest. This has probably been mentioned before, but just in case.... A lot of times authors will upload a bunch of skins under the same name as an entire theme - take Treetog's Siderado or Sputnik for instance. There will be downloads for WindowBlinds, NextStart, Beatnik, Coolplayer, etc. It would be nice to have an easy way of seeing all of the skins for that theme on the same page, or better yet a way to download all of them at once. Zathrus - you sound just like me. However, instead of calling it lazyness, I prefer the term efficiency! It doesn't matter that it might take me 10 hours to write a program. If it ends up saving me 5 minutes later on, it was worth it!
Most useful feature - makes my machine look better. Don't really use the various features enough to commit to them. Blue or Grey - I usually end up using the skins that are less showy and obtrusive. So, Grey it is for me. I switch themes probably about once a week on average. Maybe even more frequently considering I sometimes change a few times in a single day. Haven't thought of a dream theme yet.
I set my preferences to see everything. I guess I'm worried that, like charmed said, I'd miss out on something good. I'd rather see them all and make my own conclusions.
