Okay, so I finally fork over the money to buy Object Desktop. I get the component manager installed, download and install a bunch of components, no problems. Then, rather than go and configure everything separately, I click my little "WinStyles" tab in my Display Properties, pick a skin, hit OK, and the thing blows up. After some careful and well-timed screen capturing, I discover an error box comes up, titled "Control Panel" and claiming that "An error occurred while Windows was workin

It's also gotten utterly impossible to follow. I think I'm caught back up, but I give it no more than a week before I fall behind again! Now Alex, where were you with that fancy heart three months ago??

Things seem to have gotten a little off track here, but should the original topic of this thread still be a concern, I do have a friend who studied Russian, and nearly became a translator. Talking to DAK is probably the best way to go, since my friend wouldn't know what a "skin" was if it came up and bit her. But if that falls through, someone send me an e-mail and I'll enlist her translation services.

Okay, that's clearer. But what if you're looking at two icons, both derived from the same source, and you can match them pixel-for-pixel? That's what I'm looking at here. The kicker is the icon used for font size -- it's a replication of an XP font icon (paper with folded corner and an "A" on it), but I added dots next to it to indicate the font size. EIGHT skins by 'we are wolves' use that exact same icon, which leads me to believe the rest of the icons from that toolbar which "resembl

Okay, this is starting to annoy me. I keep seeing new Dashboard skins getting posted to this site that are obviously taking parts of skins that I've posted. The most-frequently stolen elements are the elements I've modeled on the XP look, though, so I have problems really calling that a rip. But I've put a lot of effort into this work -- some smaller recreations of XP icons, some original work in the XP style. As an example, nearly every skin that 'we are wolves' has posted here uses a

The ratings on here -- and by that, I mean the results of the ratings themselves, and not the system -- has never made much sense to me. Most of my skins with high download numbers have low ratings. What concerns me is that most of my skins have 1 rating, which as far as I'm aware is put there by the admin that posts the skin. So the casual user that's allegedly sorting stuff by rating to decide what to dl is seeing the opinion of just a handful of people. Bottom line is I don'

Well, supposed to be thunderstorms tonight and cooling off for the weekend, finally. My a/c can't take much more of this. Agreed Java, Michigan is weird. I lived there for a semester of grad school (Central Michigan U.), then ran for the hills. Literally. Too flat there for my tastes

I'm generally a night person, but forced to be a day person. I learned not to sign up for early classes after freshman year of college, and made it five years with nothing starting before 10:00 am. Unfortunately, the real world warrants me to get up by 6:30. So, I balance things out by being mean and miserable to everyone! Weather hot. Too hot

feline, I'm just having trouble keeping up with you now. It's been a long week :-/ I'll say this much, though -- if my cat liked belly rubs, he'd let me provide them. Maybe it's just that he doesn't have the usual amount of padding that cats tend to have in the belly area, so the belly rub thing just doesn't appeal to him as much. Usually he's pretty content following me from room to room and meowing anyway. And congrats on the anniversary, Java!

I think I figured out how this thread got so long ... feline keeps doing 5 or 6 posts in a row And frankly, I already look "cure and endearing." Not so sure about the belly rub thing. I know my cat doesn't like them, at any rate, favoring head rubs instead. And it's just sick that you've made an Elf rug. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate a cat rug.

juni, is it really possible to get a voice full of foreboding and doom from a turtle?? feline, just remember, I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. /me kicks Edgar Allan Poe

Oh, come on now, Elf ... the licking yourself was just a comment on the cat thing, nothing else implied See, the topless discussion has re-enlivened the thread. Even juni's coming out of the woodwork

Y'know, if you stopped mewling and licking yourself, Elfy, you probably won't be accused of acting like a cat so much Yay! Java's back on java! (So pleased with this that I won't even mention you hit on one of my biggest pet peeves by misspelling "Glen." Well, okay, I'll only mention it parenthetically.) I'm definitely in agreement that the front-hook method is best; I just don't seem to e

Now, now... I read all the back posts, and I talk to everyone as people. Even cats I have to say, though, velcro doesn't stick to my cat at all. You must have extremely curly fur or something. But I have noticed it sticks to sweaters and the like. I have a jacket with velcro closure that drives me nuts sticking to everything. (Actually, it has a zipper AND velcro, for some unknown reason.) I'm also

You're right.. I generally don't see the point. And I find the whole hook-and-latch thing rather frustrating at, um, certain times. What do bra manufacturers have against velcro? Don't think there'll be anything there to fit me without ample stuffing, Doreen, unless there are oversized training bras or something. See? Now you've all got me talking about bras! Damn. Well, I'll add one more thing: If you're looking for a second income stream, feline, try the dancing act without t

So... how about those Lakers, huh? I'll tell ya, it's getting tedious to load up 600+ posts just to read about relative bra fashion. It's gotten way less interesting in here since Java gave up caffeine Quick, someone say something really interesting so I can fill my time during work breaks! /me wonders how much he's now pissed off everyone.... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/

Good lord.. Scooby Doo is at the top of someone's list? I'm sorry, but there's just no way that can be any good. Then again, this comes from someone claiming that aspirin contains caffeine. Aspirin contains aspirin. Excedrin, Advil Migraine, and some other stuff adds caffeine to "enhance" the effects of the other painkillers. /me sips his morning coffee and wonders what you'd get if you cr
