it really is such a nightmare. what it thought, the whole time, was how even with the necessary support this grief is still a solitary experience. Grief is very solitary and yet you wish for all the support you can get.

dr. guy, i remember when i was a freshman there was this one boy who's father had died, and the face that he had witnessed the death of his father at such an early age sort of set him aside from the rest of us. i was thinking a lot about him.

Mason's a badass like that sometimes. i like seeing the relationship that develops between Mason and Sully because, as you may remember, intially they weren't supposed to have one, and Mason didn't like Sully. one is Balliol's first best friend, the other the new one. now, i think what happens to Balliol for the rest of the book will be something to watch out for.

EXPLOSIONS DO NOT HAPPEN ALL at once, though it seems they do. The fuse may be a long time in lighting. Thomas Lynn Dwyer’s fuse was walking to the trailer called 34456 at Monclova Terrace and finding his mother and her boyfriend buck naked having sex on the plastic covered sofa. It wasn’t the first time, but for some reason this was the last time.

it could be all of these things, becky being a girl, becky being 17, becky being becky. i think her inner life is confused because on the outside her life seems to be so not confused. really it would be interesting to see if the opposite is true of bonnie.
