I am trying to control my temper here. Not trying to flame, but........ I think the orignal poster simply doesn't realize the fact that he can design his own ships. Here's a bit of advice: Go to Shipyard, and in the lower left corner there's a button called "Create New"; click on it, and create your own ships starting by clicking on the hull type you like. The AI you picked makes a HUGE difference... in Galactic Civilizations II GalCiv2 Forums

I recently found that the AI you picked for your custom game can make a huge difference in gameplay. Being a Gal Civ 1 fan, the first two GC2 games I played I've always chosen the "Arceans", "Yor", "Drengin", "Torian", and "Altarians", that is, the 5 classic races {I am the Human). In both of those games, I had great fun, doing a little of research, developing, expansion, influence, and war. You can't beat games like that without involving yourself in all aspects of the game.

How many races are recommended on each map size? in Galactic Civilizations II GalCiv2 Forums

I think it would be really great if GCII can tell you what's the maximum number of players that's recommended to play on each map size. Currently I play on medium maps and set only 5 other races to play against me. Is this too much? What if I am playing on a small map, is it ok to have 5 races on it too?

I think it's probably a matter of getting used to it. Because the game has not been running too smoothly on my PC when I played the game zoomed in, I usually just play it through the tactical map. In fact, now I can play the entire game zoomed out, and I can tell, without zooming in, which icons are what ship and what direction they are facing. Of course, every once in a while, I zoomed in to the normal view to admire the graphics and stuff. <img src="http://images.stardock.com

Well, sorry let me make it more clear about the way I usually play. I play by zooming the map out to the exact point where everything has just turned into icons. Of course, not all the way out; just enough so I can see the icons (also the exact point where I can finally run the game smoothly ).

Recently I was playing a game using a medium map, and for some reason I found it more convenient to play the game zoomed out all the way, to the point which everything is reduced to icons and symbols. Of course, this could be because my PC usually lagged down when I played otherwise. Is anyone playing the game with the main screen zoomed out all the way? Citizen Morose, AI is playing the best game it's playing at INTELLIGENT difficulty; so don't blame the game for being stupid because you tuned the difficulty down.

Hey guys, I just got my game about 3 hours ago and had encountered a strange problem before installing. When I first put the CD in my PC to let it auto-run, a screen pops up and asks me if I want to delete a ATR.EXE shortcut on my PC, saying that the file to which the short cut refers to has been removed. I am really not sure if this is a bug or not, because it only happens with the Yor. When you go to the diplomacy to talk to any alien civilization, you would usually see them moving their heads around and such. But with the Yor, it would move its head a bit, stops, then moves again, stops, and moves again, and so on. Is this a bug? Or does the Yor do that because it is not organic? Thanks!

Thanks a lot, Brad, for releasing the new update. I am one of those people who has preordered from EB and has yet to received a copy of the game. Yes, it is extremely frustrating (because I actually set Wednesday night aside and Thursday to play GCII, so I was studying very hard earlier this week); but now that you have announced this update, I am somewhat relieved in knowing that the first GCII game I played will be patched and thus are better than the ones that ppl are playing now.

I checked the EB site again and it says GCII will be shipped on 2/24; since EB also does not handle weekend shipping, I can only imagine that I'll get my copy some time next Monday or Tuesday

I just gave EB a call because they told me that the game might be on shelf today. Well, they told me that they still don't have the game, and the day keeps pushing later and later and they dont' know why. They also said that it is a definite possibility for me not getting the game before this weekend, though even I've preordered the game about two months ago. WTF!

Great review, mate. I bought Civ IV the day it came out but was disappointed to find that the game lagged so much on my PC that I eventually gave up on getting the game to run. Glad to know that there's a strategy game out there that can compete with Civ IV!
