i usually have a few high pop worlds, and the rest with only 1 farm. if i can get all the morale goods and some morale bases, i don't even need a morale building on these planets. what i usually do is gradually increase my tax rate as i get additional morale bonuses. i try to keep everyone at 100% morale except my money making worlds. if i can keep them in the yellow, it's cool. i'm playing a game now where the same world got hit twice by the precursor artifact that doubles the

it ain't easy, either. you'll need to put a lot of effort into developing your trade, research as much diplomacy as you can, keep your influence from going overboard, and having a buff military doesn't hurt either. it's generally easier to pick a few allies to forge your alliance, and then take out everyone else.
i may be in the minority here, but better graphics have been one thing i'm looking forward to most. and now i learn that they use less memory? awesome. alongside the template designer, i'm really excited. one thing i'd suggested to Kryo a while back is hardpoint caps: blank jewelry pieces that could be used to 'cap' hardpoints on a ship design, so that if and when the computer used the design it'd have far fewer options of where to put its components. i also use his hardpoint cluster an
Acutally Vista is meant to be more MAC like. I wouldn't have a problem with it if: #4 You have only two licenses with a purchase of Vista. When you upgrade your computer's RAM or video card Vista will consider itself on a n
one reason to wait a year before getting Vista: microsoft. call me a skeptic (call me whatever you will). i just think it'll take them a while to get Vista to where they'd like to think it already is. i am looking forward to directX 10, though.
I don't know who they survey or if I'm just alone, but I think if they would look into a multiplayer option it would set this game up with some of the classics out there. That is one of the main things this game is missing. there were several polls and forums dedicated to this topic when the game was first released. those in favor of adding mult
there's a reset button near the bottom of the screen. if you're worried that the AI is using your configuration, it doesn't.
you probably crossed one of the thresholds where morale becomes significantly worse due to population. a secret police center might help a bit. if nothing else works, tear down farms.
very cool guys. interestingly enough, i just recommended GalCiv to someone i work with. i haven't seem him since then, come to mention it.
excellent, thanks brad.
have a lot of military strength doesn't hurt, either. but then if you're the top dog, alliances become less important (except for the victory). [tangent] i'm assuming a few people here have played Age of Wonders. in their diplomatic relations paradigm, they applied "the enemy of my enemy" rule -- if you were friendly with the good races, the evil races disliked you more; if you were unfriendly with a particular race's enemy, they like you more. personally, i liked that. i think it c
interesting, thanks for your feedback Smidlee (and you too Kryo - prompt as always). from what i understand, the AI makes all or most of its decisions during your turn; it's one of the ways the devs kept time between turns relatively low. perhaps if DA is dipping into your second core, it's not a huge/constant load (and not noticable).
i've found setting limits, conditions, handicaps, etc. for myself to be a great way to keep the gameplay fresh.
i use KHSM and build these to look like missiles (blank cargo hull + the star trek nacelle -looking jewelry piece as the visual base + lots of the engine jewelry that's long and flat until the very end of the piece and a couple other torian pieces to smooth it out). but i build them differently - i put a pretty high number of weapons on them as well, so they can take out large ships as well. i think of them as throw-away ships because they're cheap enough to support and build.
hello everyone, this question is open-ended, but it occurs to me thinking back to brad's posts about making really smart AI, specifically the idea that he can dedicate a whole thread to it because so many gamers are getting multi-core processors. i'm not beta testing DA myself, so i can't really observe this myself. playing DL, when i look at my task manager, the game is always using 50% - presumably, the entirety of one of my two dual cores. the other is usually around 20-30% between ba
this is message board cheese if i ever saw it i should have known this wasn't the place for semiotics. But black was by far the best choice for me. I especially like the 'pumpable' cards that come with a black dec
there's also the new planet events (not to be confused with the UP vote on who a new planet should belong two) - two versions, one boosts all zero PQ planets to 4 or 6 or so, and the other to 12. there's also the one that boosts the level of all habitable planets in a system (haven't seen that one too often). i'm really looking forward to mega events.
Dano, i think your observations are mostly accurate, but i think they describe the most commonly seen personalities. a lot more goes on beneath the surface, i think. personally, i've found either good or evil tends to dominate the galaxy, but in most games i've seen, one side usually wipes out the other by mid game. i agree with mumble, the largest single factor is the human player. i'd say the second largest are military mining bases. if one player gets their hands on more than one of
especially if you are staking your deck as the prize agreed, or playing with any kind of ante. it's no big deal to lose a lightning bolt. official tourney rules didn't do much to curb this kind of deck, either. of course, i had a penchant for counterspell decks, but those at least required a little more thought. i usually played green/black or gr
Melted cheese burns, and painfully subjective language blurs otherwise good game chats (I know, I've done it plenty myself). i don't think it's the language that's subjective, but rather the perception. i'd say the term cheese has a clear enough meaning, as stormbringer describes above: <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgCol

I have many Defender class ships running around the galaxy and I believe I may have forgotten the location of some of them. I will like to direct all of them to a rally point. I know how to setup the rally point but how can I redirect the ships to it? I try to use the Manager but do not know how. in the management tab in the F6 screen, go to the
I think good gets the short end of the stick in GC2. good gets the satisfaction of being good. i think i may have even used that line before. this is part of why i don't play metaverse - i prefer to tweak the game to my liking using mods. the big
i really just hope spies can be optionally disabled without disabling all the other DA content... i love espionage, and to be sure i'm reserving final judgement, but i don't think i'm keen on the way espionage is being done here. it seems like a lot of micromanagement if you're on a larger galaxy. Question is, how quickly should this happen? <br/
