This, however long list, is a pure patch and rebalance. I don't see any new content for which Stardock is known and which was kinda "promised" for 1.1. Sadly you went for "mini expansion", so content probably went there.
"There is no rushing."That depends entirely on the size of the map. Rushing with ships in the early game is a whole lot easier than putting up the appropriate defenses to counter them.
Very true, but compared to MOST other RTS games this is next to non-issue in Sins. A big enough map will also always eliminate the problem. I thought it was worth mentioning because it can destroy a RTS game. Thank you for your views everybody, really appreciate it!
I must have missed the topic. I stay away from the game forum after the game is released if I'm doing the review to avoid the influence from others. I definitely think that "you're not having as much fun as you could have" is a very very poor excuse. I may be biased because I'm a SP player as well though. Some people just don't like MP much and they would have no more fun even if they did join the on-line play. But if there already was an extensive thread on that it doesn't need heating
Well, I'm not putting that into the review! ;) This game is completely MP oriented, so be sure it will be fixed.
Finally Strategy Core finished the review. The first post in Sins Game Review Thread does not seem to be updated any more, so I'm posting it here... http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/sinsreview Any comments (either here or at Strategy Core review thread http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/Sins-of-
You can add Strategy Core review, too. Don't ask me why it took so long, those guys are SLOW. ;) [link="http://www.strategycore.co.uk/"]Strategy Core[/link]
I tried in 1.05 and can't get any screens as well... Has there been any solution found?
But does it do anything like change the gameplay or just for show?
Just for show.
How do I do that? Do I simply uninstall on the old comp. and install on a new one? Do I have to register the uninstall in SDC in some way?
Tried in 1.03 and 1.04; I followed the path to the directory written in the screenshot message (and where screens from the beta were), meaning "C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\ScreenShot" The names of screenshots are numerated and the counter does change, but screens are not there. I also searched the discs for ALL bmp files and they are definitely nowhere to be found.
I've reviewed the game at Strategy Core. Sorry for the self-promotion but I don't want to write it all again... I definitely recommend SotS with the expansion Born of Blood (BoB). It made the game much better. Be sure to patch. [link="http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/sotsreview"]SotS review[/link] [link="http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/sotsbobreview"]BoB review[/link]
Whichever it is, I like the one from Strategy Core more. ;)
I hope flanking becomes a factor....
This would also demand making gravity wells bigger. And adding more tactical terrain. But yeah, I hope so, too.
he still names a lot of things which are totaly out of date. Especially some of his critical points dont exist any longer.
They do (did) in beta4. It's impossible to write about stuff yet to come (although there is the remark on fleet management). The review should definitely tell the whole story... Anyway, writting a preview and trying to add every bit of info the devs let out in the forums (especially in a forum like this one, where devs communicate with fans
Hello everybody. I'm informing you all about a [link="http://www.strategycore.co.uk/"]Strategy Core[/link] Sins [link="http://www.strategycore.co.uk/pg/sinspreview"]last minute preview[/link]. Better late than never!
It sounds more like an added layer of annoyance Fuel and such works fine in 4x games, but there's enough to worry about in Sins that adding a fuel system would just make it frustrating.
Sadly most strategic elements proposed were labeled as annoyance. Actually you got it completely correct; fuel and such work for 4X games - and Sins was supposed to become one. RT4X, remember? Also I guess with all the capship babysitting going on there is not enough time for any
2. i can't my parents won't let me buy beta anything?
Generally your parents are quite right. It's far more reliable to wait for the game and read some reviews before spending your allowance!
Super! What happens to nodelines?
And you should have the ability to set minimum treasury/cache! Otherwise you'll get trapped in your own building queue when you need someting done NOW. Or perhaps this would be done better with a way to set building priorities. It could only affect the items you checked (like the three Gauss' that you wanted immediately), the rest continues as was queued.
which takes more clicking, plus you have to do it EVERY SINGLE TIME they enter a new grav well
Couldn't agree more.
got a bit cluttered after we settled on times, here
I don't have a firewall problem, I have a router problem. I'm behind a router and my provider isn't prepared to forward the ports to me. It's "too much of a P2P risk". They said that the ports are open but not forwarded. I'll try to join the announced games and hope for the best. What port will the host be using?
I know, and it is far from any formation or fleet behaviour. But I wouldn't worry too much - Ironclad is working on it.
Could somebody please tell me what port am I supposed to have for hosting/joining? I've fiddeld with MP options and I get disconnected almost instantly.
There aren't any formations in the game yet... When the advanced fleet AI is implemented such actions as LRMs staying away from the enemy should be automatic. The grav well is too small for any real formations anyway.
The homoerotics in this thread is just too much...
