Release economics 101: Why 3:00pm EST? Brad has already given some pretty good reasons in his posts about why they went with 3:00pm EST, however I'll elaborate on the economics bit for those who are as impatient as I am. For Galciv II to really succeed, it MUST stay on store shelves. Already it's doing well and I hope that there are 100,000 preorders (10X more then GalCiv I). Enough to recoup game costs, probably publishing costs as

Most of Stardock's people will be hanging out here all day to help people since initial orders aren't the 2.5X of GalCiv I we had expected but more like 10X GalCiv I (thankfully, most of the game is mirrored across the world, we've had reports of download speeds on the multimedia of >1 Mebabyte per second). Congrats Stardock! I hope you

I have a really powerful desktop and a fairly new laptop that is pretty decent. It frustrates me however, when I can't play games on it as it has a dumb-ed down graphics card. I'm really glad I will have the opportunity to play Gal Civ II on it. I'm not always home and having games while on travel is nice.

You are also counting on the fact of pirates to be proactive. Thats not how it works, they crack the game, release it and then go on their merry way to the next one. There is no fame in updating a game and sending out the updates, especially one that runs without a CD already (eliminating the need for a new crack to disable the updates)

Lord Doom, Actually, much like should happen, it's the faster fleet with the best sensors that determines who runs and who stays. You can view what an opponent is outfited with at LR with decent sensors. And if you move faster then them, you can outrun them. If they move faster then you and have seen you.. then they catch you and can try to tear you apart. So the strategic element of retreat is still there. There just isn't

I think Civ 4 style promotions would be an awesome expansion to Gal Civ. Sure - its a blatant rip off of Civ 4, but like I am going to complain? A good idea is a good idea! And Brad has said he doesn't mind copying good ideas.. I suspect this will show up eventually in the future. It's alr

Well it would add an additional variable to the system. You already have: Attack (Variable 1dX), Defense (Variable 1dX) as well as the 3 sub areas of each one. A third variable (initiative) would have to be added in. You could even do 3 sub areas too (Speed, Stealth, Scanning for instance). However This adds an amazing number of permutations for the AI to decide in ship building. It's no longer Attack vs Defense.. it's Attack vs Defe

Might I point out.. adding non-combat ships to a combat Fleet is pretty silly. You only have so much logistical support. Rather then add in your tansports to your uber fleet.. put them behind and escort them. And Yes I wouldn't mind having Tactical combat, but I want the Strategic game done first (Which it sounds like it is) So I'll also clamor for that in the Expansion. That and Multiplayer

You need to wait for your stardock serial number. If you are a beta tester you should have that one. If you were a beta tester and don't have your serial number you can do a lookup in Stardock central. If you just preordered, you'll get it later on today.

I completely disagree that a person who pirates wouldn't have bought it if forced to. Back when I was in high school and didn't have disposable income, I pirated lots of great games. These were games like MoM, MOO, Civ, and CivII, the kinds of games that I wished I supported. If I were forced to buy back then, I would have found

GTA San Andreas was a great game, but if it could have been pirated, it would have. There is no game that is released that isn't eventually pirated. Really what it comes down to is companies using their resources to delay pirating activity as long as possible. They have nice reams of studi

Great story, nice pictures too. I wish there was some sort of tech demo on GC2 so I know if it will work on my laptop. If The Movies(Lionhead) well, will GC2 also work well? I want to buy it on release. More then likely. The requirements to run GalCiv2 itself are pretty low. It's whe

One more question-are all the portraits (minor races included) animated and in motion? With the right options enabled the major races have animated portraits. I don't know about the minor though I'm sure someone will let us know.

I think the # of turns to complete the game should not impact your score. A player may choose to extend the game to research higher techs and try out things. Which is precicesly why taking more turns would have an effect on your score. If not, you would simply keep researching until you've researched

Is this really the best person to preview the game? I mean if the guy is looking for a Zerg rush or the traditional gather resource X then build Y units to kill player Z RTS formula, of course Cakewalk is going to be a death march for him. Its like having a Film critic rate a restaurant. No he w
