On the same subject I was playing Evil earlier and was offered Neutral training facility as a tech trade. The text said it was offered, but it didn't appear in the trade window. Pretty sure the AI shouldn't be able to offer it up for trade.

Custom build a troop transport! Even 1 more troop pod would make those 2 ships carry another 1000 b between them. You've probably already got much more slimeline engines when you get hold of Planetary invasions tech. In the late game I like to make fleets of VERY fast troop transports, a transport moving 36 parsecs is no easy target!
A couple of my favourite designs are Research, backed up by creativity and Luck. (the classic, good for all playstyles and more tech = more power no matter your aim) Morale backed up with economy. (amazing economic power with the right tactics and a little luck) Planet quality backed up with social construction. (Really shines for boost at the start, but is useless later in the game really, though by then you are expected to get your bon
Just a couple of the top of my head. Allow tabbing when entering account details in text fields to log into Metaverse (and to a lesser extent when naming custom civs) When saving a ship design, allow the choice between, permenant save and "just for this game" save. It's rather frustrating to have to delete or obsolete previous game's designs, I like to make brand new ones each game depending on the situations.
Two bookmarks in this forum now!
I'm a sucker for tradition. Max size galaxy, Max amount of AI civs and standard "level-footing" difficulty. I get the feeling though GC2 unlike other similar games, won't allow me to be able to finish it in a single 8 hour session.
BOTF was a good game, don't get me wrong I think a Star Trek mod could be great if done right, it's just the most obvious one to do, every game released even remotely related to space has a star trek mod of some kind.. If it were possible at the time I'm sure someone would have made that little asteroids ship look like a ray-traced enterprise. I have a few ideas, something like a Jules
But all so cliche!
Generally standard notepad for text, script or code, it's basic and reliable. Graphics photoshop or PSP, maybe 3D max. Very dependant on the actual task at hand. I believe the plan is to make the game very mod friendly, which I am happy about, but I'm more interested in total modification potential rather than tweaking a few settings, adding a couple of events or changing a few graphics so will be interested to see just how far it can b
A star trek mod is so cliche. However a mod like that would be a piece of cake from what I can see of the file structure from pre-loading. (difficulty wise, you're still looking at a significant effort for the grunt work)
I like the idea of adding a tactic/formation to a fleet, counter formations/tactics serve as balance, additional technology related to formation flying and fleet tactics etc. Never know, someone might mod it in if it's possible
Just as an update, I did as I posted previously and ordered TotalGaming subscription with 5 tokens using paypal, then used those 5 tokens to pre-order the game and am now pre-downloading, saved myself a whole $5 in the process!
I generally enjoy tactical battles. But I believe the blurb I read before about them being tedious and neccasary in teh long wrong is correct. Take Space Empires IV,. you're almost forced to tactical battle every fight in order to get a good outcome, want to capture a ship? Tactical. want to preserve your fighters for hit and run while your destroyers soak up damage? Tactical. Want to land troops on the planet and cover the porter's descent? Tactical.<
That's great news. Thanks! I suppose another alternative would have been to sign up for total gaming and use the points to purchase the pre-order. I didn't think about that, but it makes total sense.
Paypal payments are listed as being accepted by Stardock online ordering, yet when trying to pre-order a copy of GalCiv II this morning I was not presented with that option. Nor could I find any information regarding it in the FAQ or Support section. It's no real loss, I'll simply use my CC to pay for it, but I figured I should question it, I prefer to do most of my online transactions via paypal.
