Actually, to deal with morons, pop up 3 dialog boxes in sequence on random places on the screen for those who don't upgrade. That way, they can't click through them quickly, and might be annoyed enough to eventually do something about them. Most morons, of course, aren't smart enough to notice that you will leave "Yes, contine" focused, thus allowing those with "legitimate" reasons for not upgrading to simply press enter 3 times to skip them

Because there's a counter argument to how I tend to do things: From a career point of view, unless you plan to spend the rest of your career making games, you need to learn and keep up with these new techniques so that you don't one day wake up as one of those 50-year-old COBOL programmers who has long since fallen behind the latest techniques.

The first thing I will say is this: this is why there's no multiplayer... because all you'll ever hear is people yelling "nerf!!!". For god sakes man, I had enough of that with the MMORPG. It's a single player game, if people are playing fine with guns, then let them enjoy it. Multiplayer, single play

Have you eve been stood up by someone up to 10 years younger than you? But more in national perspective, have you ever gotten you butt handed to you by minor dot on the map by a bunch of up-and-coming natiionalists? (Carthage and England certainly did) I'm not sure I see your point. Having

Update: It might be your HDD access speed. What hard disk do you have? I'd like to strongly reiterate this. Once I got 1GB worth of RAM, I found that memory and CPU speed were pretty much irrelevant for the performance of games. No, after that, harddrive speed. SerialATA is vital. <br

Do military starbases have cumulative effects? IE would a pair of identical bases with modules to give say +1 on all att with overlapping radii give +2 to any ship within the overlap? I imagine so. It'd be silly if they didn't. That's an interesting idea, though. Defending a relatively s

Multiple requirements for techs already work It does? Is that AND (I need all of them) or OR (I need any one of them)? And how do you specify multiple requirements?

All I know is that I play Nano Rippers, and they own. I've actually been wondering if Nano Rippers aren't some kind of tech-tree bug. Or maybe the developers didn't realize how unimportant cost can be compared with how overpowering Nano Rippers are (1:1.125 size to damage. Nothing anywhere close to it

"Making another game" IS what modding is about, ever since the days of the old-school Quake TC's. No, it is not. What you're talking about, "Making another game" isn't modding anymore: it's total converting. These are two entirely different concepts, and I strongly dislike the way everybody

I don't really feel like registering to another GC2 forum just for this, but here's what I'd like with respect to modding: 1: The ability to have multiple required techs. Preferably both AND and OR. IE, you need to have Techs 1&2 or tech 3. 2: The ability for weapons and defenses to provide attack/defense to more than one type. A laser/autocannon hybrid that does 1 damage of each type, for example.

Ok now I see the factor you missed: beam weapons scale the worst while missiles scale the best. Even if that is the case (and nobody has a specific formula for it, so I can't test anything), it does nothing to deal with the fact that someone going for lasers has an effective technological advantage to

Um, so I'm looking at this analysis again.....did you take into account that missiles do more damage at every tech level after the initial one You seem to have missed the substance of the analysis. It does take into account damage, but the damage is mated (as properly) to the size of the weapon. A 2 damage missile weapon t

The A+ is almost enough to make better able to cope with having to wait until next October to find out what happens to the Colonials on Battlestar Galactica No. No, it's not. Not even close. I'd be willing for them to give it an F- if it would give us BSG just one month sooner. Granted, I'd

do your calculation take into account the total tech cost from the very beginning or are they simply for that particular tech? Yes. The costs listed are the total cost in research to get to that weapon/defense. <TD class="mb-Body-Quote-Text

21 Replies 26,381 Views

I agree. It is much easier to get a tech victory than to research the high-end weapons, much less equip them on your navy. I think this is a legitimate game-balance issue. Maybe. But getting a tech victory is incredibly boring. At least when you're getting weapon techs, you're getting new weapons. S

I have done an analysis of the three categories of weapons as presented in the 1.0X version of GalCiv2. And I have come to a conclusion: the developers made some significant mistakes. First, missiles are a waste of time. Period. I don't care if your enemy has ships with shields and armor; never even consider investing in missile tech. I will proceed to prove why a bit further down. Second, beam weapons are the best weapon. Period.

You are trying to tell me, that stardock isnt capable of programming AI - that already has been programmed 10 years ago in Moo2. I think you're missing the point. Code doesn't materialize from thin air by force of will. A human being has to write the code. Whether the StarDock programmers a

A great deal of time is spent considering the significance of that -- ever imagined living 1000 years? What about 10,000 years? What about a million? Even if you were in perfect health, how long before you went mad? Being an amatuer writer myself, I have pondered that question myself. My a

Baloney! Fair trading practices can include diplomacy skills irregardless of it being human or AI. How? by the same +% related to the skill. Just so that I understand this correctly, you're suggesting that the game somehow force human players to make trades the same way that the AI makes trades. IE, f

So if Gal Civ II were to make a supernova effect, it'd have to be able to kill an entire small galaxy, essentially. No, it wouldn't. If you're going to bring realism into it, then bring realism. Nothing travels faster than the speed of light. It would take a decade, minimum for the effects

So I build 4 Virtual Reality Centers for a total morale bonus of 240% (60% each)! I should be able to have 100 billion (-80%) 100% happy people with a tax rate of 69% (~ -160%). And yet I can't because my 240% is only worth ~70. All the other morale modifiers, especially the negative ones, seem to work. This has happened to m
