The main file you need to play the game is 150mb movies ~ 570mb Multimedia ~ 110mb Tutorials ~ 240mb You can install the game on any computer. i think that beats the purpose of playing on a smaller map. If you wanna build starbase to extend range, play on larger map. Smaller maps are for quick games.

You can manually change the display settings by editing the prefs.ini file this file is usually stored in "my documents\my games\galciv2" or my documents\galciv2" than open the file with notepad and under video: [Video] DisplayWidth=1600 DisplayHeight=1200 change the width and height that your video card supports

Have a look again, the alliance tech is under the universal lang tree. also, you need to have "close" relationship with the other races and they *may* also need alliance tech too
