you just have to eventually install Steam,
well, there you have it. Regarding your post comparing impulse with steam. You forgot point 7. Steam will have to run for you to play even in offline mode. Impulse doesnt.

This is probably a natural development. The problem is that they are several years too early. The computers, internet connections, the software and the users arent ready for it yet. In 10 years dropping out of internet may be a thing of the past, now it is just plain common.
In essence, stop worrying about the economics of the matter, because you really don't know what you're talking about. Just buy games because you have fun playing them. If the DRM is too inconvenient and makes games unplayable, then obviously don't buy them. On the other hand, if you're not buying a game from a vendor simply because they're a "monopoly," then you're cheating yourself out of a lot of fun. Your misguided notions are cheati

I have been afraid of this for a long time. I have dropped Empire Total War, Napoleon Total War and SupCom2 due to Steam. Now, I will have to test my guts for real. I consider CIV IV to be the greatest game ever. Then to drop CIV V, it will be like moving away from a loved one :( To the people that says "Steam works great for me, what is the problem?" The problem is this: Games sold by only one vendor is generally a bad idea. The marked doesnt evolve like it should, there is no price

I`ll bite. Here is my HOOM IV story. I bought Heroes IV without reading reviews. Hey, its Heroes... Put it on the shelf after playing a couple of hours. Just didnt get the right vibe. Then some months later I tried again and got COMPLETELY HOOKED. Why? Cause of one new feature that changes the HOO saga. Monsters that move. If you turn up the difficulty level and activate this then the game is EXTREMELY challenging in single player mode. The monsters will attack if you a

Would it be possible to randomize the AI a bit. I find it a bit disheartening that the AI will switch personality at a certain turn. I would love it if the AI switched at a random place in an interval. Then the AI would be less predictable. Some AIs will go into warmode earlier than others. I know that you can make many personalities for the AI, where some are aggressive and some are more passive, but I would like some randomness that cannot be known in advance. Maybe this is asking f

There are tons of these games where fans are making their own versions, but in 98% (my guesstimation) of the cases the projects take forever. FreeOrion, FreeCiv ++++ I wish them all the luck in the world. I just wish that more such small teams joined and actually finished some games :)
I have a totally different opinion about Civ 4. It's an "ok" game in my book, but that is all. It's way too simplistic and primitive in many aspects. Actually the combat system is what I hate the most in Civ4. It's just pathetic.
Its the sum of the parts in CIV IV that make it so great. It doesnt have the best battle system, the best AI, the best diplomacy and so on. BUT the sum of the parts make for great minig
Elemental will blow Civ V away in every respect, Especially Combat.
Wow mister Raven. Fanboi alert!!! CIV IV is a VAST improvement over the earlier CIV games. I count CIV IV as the best strategy game ever made. Elemental may be a better game than CIV V, but I am far from sure at this point. Me hopes that both be BRILLIANT [e digicons]:inlove:[/e]
Kings bounty doesn't really require much thinking, although the graphics look beautiful. It's purely single player so it's only gonna last around 2 weeks.(also this is a Rpg)
Blasphemy!!! In the battles every move counts and one mistake can cost you the battle. There are so many skills, magical formulas, dragon skills, unit specialties to consider that this actually is very deep I would say. Army composition
I don't remember who it was but in September on the chat I asked him what would be a good fantasy game while waiting for the Elemental Beta. He pointed me to King's Bounty - The Legend. I bought it minutes later and it was a lot of fun! I liked the different musics in the different zones, the multi-quests and the original combat system. I'll probably buy Armoured Princess soon. I was just waiting for good reviews

Kings Bounty Armoured Princess or CIV IV - Two top quality games for a thinking player!!!! I have Fantasy Wars, but I find it VERY difficult. Also I hate the time limits on missions. Still I will reinstall when I get a new laptop that can run the game better, and try again :)
