I'll throw in my two cents here, with a direct observation from one of my games. The situation was thus: it was early in the game, after the scouting rush, during the colonization rush. I, being a research mogul, had already researched a couple of levels of sensors and colonized a pair of planets to the North-west, making contact with an AI to the north-west. There were a pair of very nice uninhabited class 15 planets to my south-east, so I quickly deployed a sensor craft loaded with

I'm not sure if I should actually term these as actual 'bugs'. The true bugs I've encountered have almost all been reported already. The only one I've encountered that's quite obviously bug was a CTD I had - but that was when I quit the game, so I'm really not terribly concerned. I haven't had the game crash otherwise. However, the following items are certainly inconsistent behavior that doesn't s

Frustrating, isn't it? I noticed similiar behavior, and I think I've nailed it down to a simple point of fact - the 'military strength' isn't correlated with actual military strength, but apparent military strength. I think it's tied to either how much you're spending to maintain the ships, or the total hull size you're fielding. Either way, the AI still doesn't look at how many planets its lost, or how many ships its lost, but only at its current strength, compar

After starting a new game and going through it a bit, I actually found out one of my problems. I'm colonizing planets too fast . It's a difficult concept to grasp. I get handed 5000 credits, I want to spend it. What better way to spend it than on - more colonies! Colonies are a source of cash, right? .... wrong. Colonies cost something like 13 apiece to keep running. If you don't have your economy developed enough yet, you c

Well, the same thing is happening to me in this game that happened in GalCiv the first time around... On beginner, it's no contest. I can just mop up the AI left and right. First game I won on influence. But in Normal mode - I get steamrollered! Or to put it more expansively, I get outproduced. It used to be every single AI race that was doing it. At least this time, I'm holding my own with most of the races... it's jus

Of course the AI doesn't cheat. It just has a few bugs that need to be worked out. Like this one. If I'm not mistaken, this is illegal. I even sat down and thought about it a while, under the pretense that maybe, somehow, it was, and I could do it, too. But no, you can't build starbases within 3 parsecs of each other. Unless something weird happens. If anyone's curious

Well, I have to admit, my craft are a little more... asture... than those. But I like 'em! Whiskers Aww, innit cute? Here we have a craft with a sensor range of 20 parsecs. Three or four of these and you're set for a medium map. No guns, no defenses, hardly any engines. Just one pack of life support - which makes them dirt cheap to maintain.
