Actually, in games like chess, you have to plan and wait for the opponent a lot. And the wait can be excruciating. I think there is a list of factors that determine what is the "right" speed of the game. And it's a personal thing. 1) RTS and 4X experience 2) Number of planets 3) AI or human opponent 4) Number of opponents 5) Quick pick-me-up game or multi-day save game with friends In general, I think for a 1-on-1 vs. AI on a small map, faster speed i

Adding extra speed settings in fine, and that's what Ironclad said they are considering for v1.03. The crux of the problem is that die-hard RTS players want it to be another click-fest, who-builds-faster RTS game, while the die-hard 4X players want it to be a slow, real-time version of a Civ-type game. I don't feel this game should be like either. It's something different. It should be accepted for WHAT IT IS. I think the game should play a little faster, but the *feel* of the game

Actually, I found the learning curve was about an hour. After playing GalCiv 2, Sins is a piece of cake. ;) More importantly, Sins actually handles most of the minute details for the player, so he/she can spend a lot less time learning the interface, and more time actually playing the game. :)

I think those who prefer a really deep 4X game will be a bit disappointed. Those looking for another fast-paced, shallow RTS clone will be disappointed. The rest of us can enjoy this new RT4X experience.

Having played Sins for a bit now, I do feel that "normal" is a bit slow, especially for twitchy RTS players. But I don't think it would be too slow for 4X players. Ah, RoN a deep game? A fairly good RTS, but nothing more. An hour is about right. Sins game in only an hour? Man, might as well just strip out research and trade, and just build a fleet and have at it. It's like saying Empire Strikes Back is too long, and they should cut out all the non-battle "fluff".

I think the research, economic and pirates (yes, pirates) aspects offer more strategy than a typical RTS. All RTSes in the end is about who has the stronger army/navy/whatever. But many of the late-game research are game-breakers. Trade routes and taking key planets are game-breakers. Fleet tactics can make a difference. Even though culture can't win a game, it can swing it to one side's favour. I think Ironclad had stated previously that winning is suppose to RTS-like, so

Routers are bad?!? :SURPRISED: I'd double check to make sure your PC hasn't been infected or rootkitted. That'll slow down your Internet connection to a crawl.

IMHO, the only movement capital ships should do in combat is based on inertia. In space, ships with a huge mass shouldn't stop on a dime, nor should they be dogfighting. The problem is that the "physics" in the game doesn't really represent the mass of large vessels properly. The larger the vessel, that more it should drift. For a capital ship to come to a dead stop would require an immense amount of energy, which would be better spent on shields and weapons. So that's why d

Well, I think Stardock and Ironclad will be adding and tweaking quite a bit, so I think I'll be keeping it on my PC for awhile. But more importantly, as I get better at the game, I'll start to play on maps with more and more planets, which will give me the kind of strategic challenge that few games can match. I'm always looking for new gaming experiences, but I'd like to test the limits of my strategic abilities. Besides, other RTSes are so similar to one another, except with

Even in chess, there's a difference between playing a fast timed game vs. a slow one. Deep strategy takes *time*. The faster the game, the less time the brain has to process information and less time to think of all the creative possibilities. RTSes in general are about micro-management. 4X is much more about macro-management - dealing with the big picture. For Sins, you need to do both, so it requires more time to do the number crunching, see the overall trends and get the

Wouldn't it be great to be able to have save files as Deskscapes? Or save the battles as Deskscapes? That way, we could watch replays/trailers/whatever in the background while doing other things (when not playing Sins, of course ;) ). And since we could have almost unlimited save files to download, there would be lots of new content to see. Should be a win-win tying two Stardock products together in a new way. SD could even host a Sins "highlight of the day" kind of thing,

What I'm waiting for is Ironclad (Blair? Craig?) to say something about future plans for diplomacy, pirates, AI, etc. - things that go beyond simple tweaks. Until then, keep giving feedback I guess. I'm still waiting for my friends to find a place to buy the game... LOL.

AFAIK, one of reasons for pirates is to keep the game in-check, especially early in the game. Removing pirates likely results in a more unbalanced game. I don't think it's a good argument to say that pirates are used as a crutch by the AI. Pirates are there to act as a buffer for all sides. It's like burning CDs without a buffer. You might not get buffer-underruns on one CD, on two, or even a dozen. But it doesn't mean it's better or safer without a buffer. Anyway,
