And if you don't like having to do something (in this case, asking for help on forums), then you have a serious problem. You can't just expect everything to go perfectly smooth in a game because that's impossible and will NEVER happen. And, if you can't bring yourself to simply ask kindly on a forum for some help, then you have a

It's just a rant about why I'm frustrated with the game right now, and wondering if anyone else feels the same. Sorry if you thought it was something different. I would have included a poll but I don't think the forum supports that feature.

Finished reading. What he says makes sense, and I can understand his point of view, but at this point i want results and not promises. Saying "We're listening to player concerns" doesn't mean anything to me. I'll believe they're listening when I start seeing some of these issues getting taken care of. Especially when I've seen some concerns waved off as design decisions in prior threads. Which is probably why most companies have PR interact with th

One of the developers just posted an interesting piece that the original poster should read: Reading it now. I don't feel I'm being unreasonable. I realize it's not feasible to redo the entire economic system at this point, but a number of suggestions have been made that don't require that.

wanna know how many factories? do a search. lots of posts about strategies. I don't want to do that. Reading a web forum just to find out how to play a game is unacceptable. There's absolutely no reason why the information can't be in the game or at least the manual. Stop making excuses for Star

Yes, I have a three button mouse. I have a five button mouse AND the super high end video card that the other games require. That has nothing to do with my criticism of GC2. I don't use buttons #3-5 because every other application on my computer with the exception of GC2 gets back with just left and right click. Maybe when every other application on the market does things a certain way, it's because it's the best, most intuitive

And really, it's irrelevant whether you can tell me how a farm or an entertainment center works. It's not the fact that I don't know these things, it's the fact that I had to resort to posting on a web forum to get the answers. The specific issue is mostly irrelevant.

About industry, the game gives you *exact* figures for shield production (8, 10, 12 etc) and the capitol gives *exact* bonuses (x2) and the resource tiles give *exact* bonuses. Obviously production is limited by the 'industrial capacity' slider. How is this confusing? The most confusing part about industry for me is the con

Shit man, just ask this stuff before you start griping. Unlike the FPS games, there is very little competition in the community. Lots of people on the forums have cleared up my questions and given me strategies, and all I needed to do was read around. Again, I shouldn't have to do that.

Name the points. Name the places. That is the only way that the developers will know what you are talking about. Otherwise that sounds like a "generic complaint" to be ignored. They know where the manual is wrong better than I do. As a matter of fact the only reason I know it's wrong in places

Wow.... the original poster is 90% happy with the product and is STILL complaining? What the hell you got to do to keep people happy these days? A game that I'm going to continue playing for more than the first week? If the game is fixed I'll probably still be playing it a year from now. If it's no

That would involve making positive suggestions without the "this will make or break my game" attitude. It would also involve taking steps to illuminate what exactly they found good about the game that should be kept at all costs - the "90%" mentioned at the beginning. Err, shouldn't it be understood t

I wish they'd *improve* the UI, to have proper resizable, floating windows, but aside from the text-entry thing I don't have any serious problems with it. I'm certainly not going to read every thread to find examples when you simply can't be bothered mentioning *even one*. I'm not entirely sure why the arrow keys control sh

P.S., as one poster mentioned it, what exactly -IS- EB's return policy? ^^ As a matter of fact I went there to buy GC2. They tried to sell me an open-box game with stickers all over while simultaneously telling me that if *I* opened the box, I couldn't return it. I went elsewhere.

Well, like I said, there's a lot to like about the game, it's just that last 10%. If they just made the game more intuitive in general and gave us a correct reference for game mechanics that would get rid of most of my complaints right there. The only problem is that I've been told people brought up these same kinds of issues with GC1 and they were never fixed.

As a matter of fact, just read the entire Ars thread from start to finish, notice how the posts go from "What's it like?" to "This game is great" to "This game has some issues": http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/283002787731/p/1

For example, someone on another forum I post on had this to say about the kind of issues I'm talking about: "The worst part is that people will get accustomed to the shitty design decisions and just accept them as they are. I think this is the root of the problem. A lot of hardcore GC I players were the beta testers for GC II, so they were used to a shitty UI and design issues, so they either brought them up and Brad shot them down, or never

I must have missed the point where I whined amidst all the valid criticisms I posted of the game that more than a few people happen to agree with. Don't reply if you don't have anything more substantiative to say than "your opinion sucks". It's juvenile.

121 Replies 87,850 Views

The problems with the game UI and lack of transparency in game mechanics have been thoroughly documented by others more eloquently in other threads. If you'd like I can cut and paste a half dozen specific pieces of criticism that have been posted elsewhere. I simply don't think it's needed to rehash every specific issue in every single thread. It's enough to simply say the game has an untuitive UI and there's no place where every game mechanic is ac

This is a discussion forum for the game. I never saw anything that said we're not allowed to post criticism. And yes, I am playing other games instead. That's the whole reason I posted. And no, turn-based games suit me just fine. I like 4X and I like turn-based games, I just don't like this one.

I bought GalCiv2 almost the day it came out, and at this point I'm beginning to regret it. To keep it brief, I stopped playing while waiting for some issues to be fixed in a patch. I'm not in any particular hurry. Then after reading the forums I find out that half of the things that are bugging me about the game are there by design and aren't likely to be changed. And it just so happens most of the people I've talked to are annoyed by the same thin
