Stardock is making history with the release of Galciv2 in more ways than one. It is an instant classic in a genre littered with failures. It is shaping up to be an outstanding commercial success. And Stardocks business model of 'treat your customers decently' is a statement that desperately needed to be made to offset the 'our customers suck!' attitude that other publishers seem to have these days. I'll tell you what - I've never been much for windows 'skinning' and that kinda thing, but

Research goes across your empire, it's cumulative. If you have four colonies with 1 lab each, you've got 4 labs total cranking out research. But if you have 4 colonies with 1 factory each it does NOT mean that when one of those colonies builds say, a ship, that you get 4 factories worth of output. A factory, or other manufacturing resource, only increases the build speed of something being built ON THAT COLONY. So....if you're not building anything on a colony (a shi

Just saw your news blurb about starforce and wanted to chip in my two cents, as this is a subject I feel very strongly about. I have been a pc-gamer off and on for 15 years and this is where I draw the line. RANT MODE ENGAGED: Thank you for not using Starfarce. I usually wait for reviews before buying a game, but I pre-ordered GC2 to support your customer-friendly behavior. I will NOT tolerate starforce on my PC. I have not spent a fortune buying parts for my gaming m

I placed the Influence Starbases in the other Civ's star systems. Dumb idea? Or good idea? I figured I had all the influence I needed in my system. I can see where maybe it doesn't work like that? You have to start in a system and them push the borders out? I'm surprised attacking a few planets makes your culture 'sweep thru the galaxy'. But then I guess I'm still playing 'Ascendancy' ! (That's the only other 'build an empire game I ever played!). Also....I nev

So, when you want to increase the speed with with you build something you emphasize 'social'? When I start a game, before I build a research-lab I want to speed up my 'build-up' infrastructure to make the lab get built quickly. So that means build a factory, and put the slider at 'Social'? Thanks for the tips, I'm trying to get a grip on this one piece at a time! -MB

For my first game I did a small 'cakewalk' scenario and quickly had about 30-40% of the galaxy. Lots of research, made good ethical choices, researched all 'influence' items. Build LOTS of embassy and lots of 'Influence Starbases'. I'm trading with 4 races. The 'Influence Starbases' don't seem to change my influence. And eventually, the YOR come along and clobber me, no matter how much everyone else loves me. I can't ask anyone to attack the YOR, because they are not listed

Research is cumulative across your civilization, right? You build research labs, the more you build, the faster your research goes? If you build two labs on a colony, that's better than one, right? Also, you can click the 'emphasise research' button to, one would think, increase research. I just clicked the 'emphasis' (or whatever it's called button, the options are 'military, social, research') on all 7 of my colonies. It had no impact on how long it took to finish my research

After 2-3 hours of play (damn, this is a fun game) my mouse cursor 'goes away' inside the game and is invisible in windows. I'm using a 7800GT, latest drivers, have never had a problem with anything else. I have to shut down to recover. Here's my question for people having mouse point problems - are you using the new GC2 'theme'? I wonder if that is causing the problem?? I'm running 1.0d, I believe it is, the patch from earlier this week. I hope this will get fixed so

Apparently not. I've downsized my res. This is not what I had in mind when I spent mega bucks on my screaming game pc. I hope they address this in the future or the much vaunted, 'in the future it'll still look great because you can bump up the resolution' won't really work so hot. -MB

Dear God, yes, can we do something about the font size. Even at 1280x1024 it's hard to read. Very hard. Damn hard. If I were a young whipper-snapper I'd be playing Half-Life 2 (well, actually not because Steam/Valve sucks), but you get my point. But as I am a 50+ gamer, I'm stuck with these darn games you have to think about. And yes, before you ask, I'm using computer-glasses that I use for all my games. PLEEEEASE....... think about what we can do beside shooting ourselves
