Heh. You haven't seen poor documentation until you've played Dominions 2. Errata as long as your arm, 80% wasted on lists of spells, and and whole aspects of the game are glossed over. THAT is bad documentation. I found GC2 easy to pick up and play. However, I have begun to notice that I'd like to have tech stats instead of just names on the tech tree. For instance, instead of 'allows hyperdrive' I'd like 'allows hyperdrive spd1 siz11'.

To be fair, good dip systems are *extremely* rare in TBS games across the board. I believe this is due to the one-sided nature of most of them, where in the end you're going to kill everyone anyway. It's a problem in GC2, though, since you actually can play in relatively non-violent ways... so you expect to be able to 'talk' to people instead of just 'sell' them stuff.

I'm not a terror star fan, but restricting them is a silly idea. It'd be like preventing 'good' civs from using the best weapons, because they kill too many people. Good civs have no problems slaughtering the entire population of a planet in ground combat, after all. Dyson spheres are an absurd idea, since anyone with the materials technology to build one wouldn't need one anymore. Ringworlds or Orbitals are a much better idea, since they

Yeah, I get this. Originally I thought that espionage was reached at some derived value that increases over time (like, value of all planets/improvements, or population etc) and you get it on one turn, then next turn it's gone up a bit so you get it again until your spending is high enough to stay ahead of the increase. Now I'm not so sure.

I never get tired of posts like this. Especially the ones with obviously untrue claims, like 'HW1 is better graphics-wise'. I own HW1, and the graphics are NOT better. They're low-poly, poorly textured, 90s graphics. I've played more than a few sci-fi TBS games, and GC2 has good graphics as they go. Certainly better than IG2, MoO3, and the like. And the bugs... well, I've never had any problems. 1.0 crashed sometimes after si

This is my only real complaint with GC2 as it stands. The 'diplomacy' system is more accurately a 'trade' system, and the player can only indirectly influence the AIs diplomatic decisions. The AI can send you all manner of informative 'I hate the x' or 'I am declaring war on x help me' messages, and the player can't. Even indirectly, there's no way that I've found to reduce the relationship between two AI - you can't say 'I don't like x, here's $6,0

Whenever I read things like this, I jump into a game and have a lot of fun trying out the new strategies the article suggests to me. However, I'm still using 1.1beta1, so I'm not sure if the diplomacy system has been changed in the later betas. Basically, it frustrates me that the AI can call me up and say all these neat things like 'this guy is killing me' and 'I'm dogpiling on the evil guy, do you want to join in' and the player can't. Y

Is the 'number of planets' option working properly? The last few games I've set it to a low setting ... and about half the stars have four/five planets, and about half have NONE. Does the option determine the odds of a star having planets, or the number of planets? Are these games just a freak of averages, or is this how it's supposed to be? I chose 'low planets' and 'lots of habitable' because I wanted to have one or two planets per star

The autoexplore feature is almost worthless. It just means the ship will slowly and ineffciently scout, without taking into consideration the activities of any other scout. Honestly, simply being able to say 'search these sectors' would make it much more useful - scouts always end up going the least-useful way.

It's the people who honestly think GC2 is ever going to be like MoO2 that worry me. The focus of the two games is *totally different*.

That only works if you're an idiot. Due to the space thing, larger ships can have more defence - it shouldn't be hard to make capital ships that can walk through the fire from smaller ships. I build two classes of caps: one loaded with defence, and one more balanced. The tactical AI often wastes it's time firing for no damage at the defence ship, while my other ships return fire. Defence isn't useless - indeed, at the start of the game defence=2 me

This is the same thought I have with the endless 'lolz MoO2' threads on the forums. MoO2 had plenty of features - for better or worse - but the AI appeared to have no clue how to use most of them. The race customisation, for instance, meant that the AI was generalised and almost never played to the strengths the particular abilities of a given race provided. Tactical combat was a joke, because the AI couldn't design a hole in the ground and couldn't

The cheese potential of MoO2 is *not* something to remember fondly. The race-creation system was so horribly broken it just wasn't funny. It was trivial to make a race that wasn't just a bit better - there were many builds that basically guarranteed victory. That sucks balls. DONKEY balls. The OP makes some pretty questionable points. I'm a big MOO fan myself (MoO2 less so), but saying the ground combat is the same because it LOOKS THE

People expect us to believe they can beat the game on challenging, but don't know how to upgrade a class? Maybe the giant window that automatically opens and says 'upgrade' might have something to do with that? Clearly the 1.1 patch is primarily focussed on addressing the way the AI plays the game and fixing some more obvious exploits. I don't re

That's pretty lame - criticising the game for both 'ripping off' Civ4 (Sid Meier clearly 'owns' TBS) then complaining that there's no tactical combat... like in Civ4. It's bad to rip off Civ4, but you should have ripped MoO2 off MORE! Hey, you can't have unique structures without ripping off Civ4! The map is better than Civ4s... but we don't like it waaah! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="

'Boni' is what pretentious morons call 'bonuses', I imagine. Like morons who call 'viruses' 'virii' to try to look clever. The races in GC2 are different. I don't like the C4 clumsy method of giving each group unique units - which wouldn't work properly in GC2 anyway - and ethics provide unique faction stuff. It's just more organic that 'here are your super longbowmen, once you're in the gunpowder age you're boned'. Frankly, I
