Play Tips? Only one - dont try to play it as vanilla GC2, you'll be Galatic Toast very quickly, its a whole new ball game. With the latter in mind, no one really knows yet, although my personal impression is it will turn out to be no one "single" game killer tactic, its far too broad and deep a game now compared to vanilla GC2, and they still have some 'features' not yet hooked up into the Beta code. Going to be interesting and enjoyable, they have done a good job

Is it worth it ? Definitely, run dont walk to get it. I have been on the Beta since it began, and DA is being put together with the customary Stardock attention to detail and listening to Players. In comparison to vanilla GC2, DA is a whole Universe away in terms of functionality and enjoyment. Dont let the term "Expansion Pack" lead you astray, its almost GC3 by another name, the changes are that extensive. Its a whole new, and far better game, to list the changes and reasons would
A tactic I've tried does work in many situations - not all for sure - but limits the pre-teen prattling - is to create a sub forum, and the moderator labels the thread "Flame War XXXX" where XXXX is the topic concerned, any flamewar not in the subforum meant instant forum ban. Initially, they went at it hammer and tongs, but when they began to realise no one bothered to look at the subforum to read the boring prattling they lost their audience, and they drifted away. Didnt stop it t
Sorry double post - forgot to emphasise its announced as a "Galactic Achievement" in the popup boxes, but its actually a Super Project. So either thats an isolated Text Label error, or is part of the 'bug' symptoms. Sandbox games not scenarios. Regards Zy
Frogboy re your post 13 Dec 01.13hrs above So there is no confusion - it is happening at the very start of the game. For example press cntrl-n and as each new startup map/settings is created, immediately after that process is complete the announcement of a Galatic Achievement "....... manufacturing Capital has been created" is shown. It happens about every two or three startups / new starts. At least one Race, but usually more than one race, gets the annoncement box appearing.<br
Okie Doke - I've never seen it happen before in any game I've played, interesting, AI's are turning into Capitalist heathens Regards Zy
The description text of the Thalen Super Ability in the opening civ screen (press "i" when in there against Thalan's) needs ammending. Brad's Beta 2 change log gave the change of the new Hive ability from Unlimited range to +20%. The text still shows the old phrase of "Unlimited" Range in the information popup of Thalan Race. Regards Zy
When I first opened Beta 2, all the AIs were given a Manufacturing Capital right at the start, before turn one. The announcement popup came on during the opening 'clicks' to get to the basic play area before pressing end of turn 1. I tried resetting using Cntl-N, and on average one 'reset' out of two resulted in a Manufacturing Capital being given to an AI, usually the Iconians, before doing anything on the game. On around one reset in - say - ten with Cntl-N there were more than on
Not a lot of changes then, from Beta 1A ...... Amazing work level ..... Regards Zy
How hugely refreshing to read a polite complaint that does not act as if Armagedeon is due in 2 minutes, before having the curtesey of giving individuals the chance to investigate and rectify. Maybe the Human Race is not about to whither and die after all Regards Zy
The printers? Yikes, but that changes my impression of how much might change during this semi-public beta. Here's hoping y'all have the obssessive need to update DA post-relase as you did the core GCII! Obssessive ? Geeez thats certainly an understatement. I have never seen a bunch of developers roll out the fixes and tweeks so fast and so dilig
Nice idea, I could go for that, it is a pain on Gigantic when it happens - albeit I know we are open to the simple fact it was user error in the first place However, we are all human, and such a facility would be a thoughtful addition to the UI. Regards Zy
Yup its a real game killer, I am much looking forward to the next Beta Build with a fix for this. Like you I have cut them out the game until next release, I miss the skin eating brat Regards Zy
Bad thing about all these .pdf manuals nowadays is when your first learning a game, you have to take yourself out of the game to check something in it, or you have to use damn near an entire printer cartridge to print them out for reference during the game. I realize the digital manual saves companies tons of money, but I still don't have to like them.
Hate to say it, but I have to disagree here...I have not found many big commercial releases with even 'good' documentation. To have 'mass appeal' to most (not all) of the gaming public is to be able to load a game and figure it out in 5 minutes with out reading anything....sad but true. A valid point, the game does need to catch the n00b's
GalCiv2 has never been strong on documentation, and in a way that was fine as such, since there were not mega numbers of features to unwind. Usually when coming in at N00b level you could figure it out after a few games. DA will be a different ball game, miners, spys, economic treaties, research treaties, combat system blah blah. Put it all together with the existing GalCiv stuff, and from a N00b viewpoint it will get confusing at the start, for some too confusing without uptodate do
The Yor throwing a social party ? That would be a Super Ability a bit out of wack Regards Zy
XP will show up to 4Gb RAM, but really only utilise up to 3 Gb in a practical sense. Same goes for the Page file, it can only adress up to 4Gb of space, it will report more than that, but only address up to 4Gb page file. "only" rofl my first PC had a "huge" 1mb memory and 20mb disk (286AT) - could not get the spell checker to run on that these days..... let alone the operating system ....
We should be careful of "protecting" the AI from those nasty Human players The game is there to be enjoyed - if the AI becomes too hard to defeat, you loose many many players who are in the middle ground of abilities/time they can spend on this. The overwhelming number of key factors in this all revolve around the practicalities and realities of programming the Beast. We dont know those limit
Then he would be committed to the funny farm if he was on Gigantic maps where normal ship speeds tend to be 40-60 move points, and can go up to 80-100 move points See this thread where that and allied topics are discussed, and some comment from Frogboy Move Points discussion Regards Zy
I dont have the exact one I was describing, however, the attachment to the email below is a perfect example of the very common combat bug, and the same principle as my forum post above. I wont detail the values here, you can see it in the game file. Save file in email Thu 30 Nov 14:34 GMT 650Kb from a .co.uk address sent to the gc2bugs mailbox Load game - look top right of Arcean AOI. You will see a line of three Terran fighters/fleet, and another just to the right of the r
Another one - still on the same game as my last two CTD reports. From vertually no CTDs during the Beta - just the Freeze one - now gone to 3 CTDs, all on the same game. This time was in the management screen buying up a few low turn improvements, tidying up next ship builds etc. Did quite a few, so with management screen still open, I did a QuickSave. Instant CTD. Ended up with a zero byte QuickSave file - and lots of entries to re-do - yuck <img src="http://images.stardock.com/g
I assume so, I have not seen it in 'standard' GalCiv2. It came up at Painful level Beta 1A Gigantic, seven opponents, I was a bit behind in that one, got meself in a small mess re economy early game, and was slowly sorting myself out when it hit me with that Event. It went on for over a game year. I've only had a similar total mayhem one, once before, it was in standard GalCiv2 at Crippling level Gigantic nine opponents. All of a sudden all nine oppenents hit me with a war within 3
The best "oh c**p* one I have come across has been the "....Terran disidents...... and assasinated the Drath [president/ambassador] (cant remember which) and the Drath have declared war, supplied with ships from private industry"- well over 500 Drath fighters appeared all at once like measels on the map. I had instant kittens, and to be honest, I thought, well thats that, say goodnight, next game . <
This one could be "work in progress", and would be grateful if someone from Stardock could please advise if you want them - they are very common, and easy to pick up. I dont want to put them in Forum/mail them if they are of no use due to "work in progress". Below are comments on one engagement, if you want them, is this the way you want them laid out? Do you also want the saved game? Scenario: Single fighter takes on the Arcean Capital. Three ships in there, two older fighters
