Wierd effect suddenly surfaced in my second game (Gigantic Map, all on abundent, only Mega Event enabled). It got to the point where I was butting up against the YOR area of influence, then with no warning any of my ships entering the YOR AOE had their move points reduced from 12 to 3. When they left, back up they went to 12 move points. No Spys around according to the Spy screen, not aware they could do that if indeed that was what happened. Bug or previously unknown DA feature? not

I play a 1680 x 1050 screen, Gigantic Map, all options set to 'Abundant'. I therefore spend most of my time on the overview zoom level, only zooming in when its mega busy around the area of interest. Gigantic Maps get busy, and with DA they became appreciably busier. Bare in mind my comments refer to the zoomed out map - its obviously not an issue when zoomed in. I get around seven or eight miners beavering away on a dozen or so Asteroid Belts that can be spread around a thir
Being in UK I have no idea who he was. The passing away of any individual is a sad event for those that knew them, but these forums are not the place to express it. Such posts would never stop as its members are Global, bringing to an effective halt the forum's purpose. Its a dilema that some Sites have resolved by putting a 'rememberence' forum on the Site where those that knew the individual(s) could express their feelings - shoulkd there be enough who would want to use it, and that
I agree with your basic premis - speed has a great affect on combat, both in the real world and in GalCiv. Properly used a small group of fast ships can take out a much more heavily armed and numerical force by concentrating all ships at a point of your choosing, then rapidly switch to another area to repeat the process. This rapid concentation of firepower is a winner every time against a slower AI who is forced to spread forces over a wider area, due to an inability to concentrate them in one
Most people tend to agree that GalCiv II made a huge impression on the Strategy gaming world. If things go in relative terms Dark Avatar will take the Strategy Gaming World by Storm. Very very impressed. At last a thinking person's TBS that does not hide behind insane "colony rush" or its equivqlent as a first game mechanic. The latter always drives me nuts as its generally at an insane illogical pace. DA on the other hand is marvellous - what a huge change you guys have implemented.
Happened twice so far in the early game (first 12 game months). It was not picked up by SmartExceprion even it was running in the background, and neither was it recorded by Debug.err. Real strange ... First time I was right clicking to move a ship, and milliseconds later, bang I was looking at the desktop with the error message "Fatal Error" as a title, and the text was "Invalid Cell". Also on screen was a popup box from windows update asking if I wanted to install new updates that w
Didnt have much free time at it was with GalCiv II, got a feeling this will blow away whats left - anyone know a good lawyer - I might need one, she'll go nuts Regards Zy
I have used it for several months now - it makes life soooo much simpler, and as with all Stardocks products it does what it says on the box - hugely refreshing in the software world. Works for me - cant think of operating without it now. Regards Zy
Just finished my first game on 1.4X - I like it, plays well. The changes made are "gentle" ones, enough to tip the balance of the game in what I believe is the right direction. The game always felt a little like "pushing sand uphill" in the early game mainly due to the way the economy worked. This resulted in the early timeline indicators flat-lining almost for the first 12/18 game months due to game mechanics and it suffered a little because of it. Now it feels more responsive, mo
I'd wait to work it out until you try V1.4x as the economy side oflife has been revamped particularly the early game where its now easier to grow the economy. get money and avoid going going bankrupt. Some techniques pre V1.4X may still be valid - difficult to say until V1.4X has been tried a couple of times Regards Zy
Doing Good How about an Empire WebSite ? Regards Zy
A suggestion on Food Management as it appears to be on its ever increasing march up the richtor scale of importance. I always find it a real pain in game mechanics terms to track and manage food production, and I find I can very quickly run into food caps mid & late game if I am not alert to regularly checking the little devils have enough to eat - greedy suckers I mainly use the colony
I have had similar problems - not "that" often but it will usually happen at least 2 times - sometimes 3 or 4 on a Gigantic game above Tough level all races enabled. It seems to happen mid to late game usually. far more so in the late game. I have 2Gb RAM and 6Gb virtual memory file set. Most times its a CTD others its a screen freeze, sometimes I can get at Task Manager during / afterwards - when I do all memory used up as well as vertual memory. On around one out of three the crash will ea
Traditionally I have hated RTS - they all seem one big Click Fest and verging on moronic in engaging the player's brain. I hope the fact that Ironclad are developing and Stardock are Publishing/Distributing will not affect the traditional high quality and response now expected and loved all in Stardock Games. It doesnt matter who actually developed, the game will be associated with Stardock, and that sets expectations. I hope this is not driven solely by finance and expansion motivations, ano
I agree that Retail outlets should be used as well as digital distribution, for the moment. In the end cost & margins dictate availability and distribution channels, and in the latter digital distribution wins hands down. At present the buyers culture is 'touchie feelie' - they want to have a physical media in hand on purchase. The latter is only historical 'its the way we do it'. Increasingly with the advent of widespread DSL/ADSL at home, more and more buying of Branded goods is being done on
Unreal - flurry of worry over a selection click, through the night code fixing and republish. You guys never cease to amaze me, if the rest of the software industry took your example all our lives would be less hassle, minimal grief and more enjoyable. Beyond Mortality ...... again Thank You Regards Zy
You have transended mere Mortality to an Ultimate Being Of Wonder ..... and I have kicked myself for missing such an obvious Option Setting .... Many thanks My Hero Regards Zy
A minor request amongst the sea of excellence that is GalCiv II. I am finding the background clouds under the game table very distracting and glaring. I have tried all combinations of Contrast/Brilliance etc etc changes to no effect. There seems to be no way of either toning down the glare intensity, or turning them off. It maybe possible to just delete the cloud files, but I dont know if that would have an effect of the checks for no code changes in Metaverse games. <br
Thank you Stardock-you guys continue to build a deserved reputation for pro-active development and listening to your Gamers. There is little doubt in my mind now that you are now in the top bracket of Game developers. I know no of no other game where the deliberate use of its users in Betas and feedback is so potent and successful. Whilst this strategy of intimate use of Gamers in public Betas is a cost effective strategy with many benefits for Stardock - it works well as Gamer feedb
Any system has 'winners and losers'. Inevitably, as a generalisation, some 'losers' will complain whilst the 'winners' stay quiet, its the way of life. I guess we all been there as a 'winner' or a 'loser' at some point. I believe genuine efforts are being made to keep it 'fair' - its in their interests to do so in any case. It will never be perfect thats an impossible Holy Grail in any system - even The Olympics (and $Billions are spent on that). At the end
I think they could do a lot to enhance the board, and I think it would provide a showcase to the other Software they produce. I am sure there is a lot in the Windows additions they produce that could be used to good effect. However I also recognise that the developer resources are not unlimited, and they must balance needs of Retail Software and any possible enhancements to the Board. It sounds like from a previous poster and enhancement may be coming, if so great. If not
The game is fully moddable - great allows you to do your thing. It also allows another form of so called cheating whereby various files can be changed ... do they stop this as well, and therefore stop you being able to mod? At the end of the day if useing the codes floats their boat why worry ? Any dork who then claims its easy is so obviously full of the proiverbial that they are hardly worth the crediblity of a complaint...... and they are not exactly hard to spot
run msconfig and stop all those unecessary background programs - which is most of the icon cluttered systray. Be sure to keep the MS ones tho - nearly all you need for now, although even those could be pared down eventually. For now zap most of the others - get brutal, but watch you keep firewall/AV / MS going initially. Stop firewall & AV if playing off line Boost swap file to 2Gb This and all the others in preceeding posts are small in themselves, but add the
To a point it was true - no longer Significant AI changes recently, particularly in 1.2 Beta 009. You get access to Beta builds once you bought and registered the game, and downloaded Stardock Central. Support for the game is unmatched anywhere - its an amazing level of comittment. Dont hesitate go get it. Zy
Was a bug - CC patched it last night by removing the offending file and replacing with the 1.11 version of the file (eye candy not affect game play of 1.2b) - go to SDC and update to at least 009 Regards Zy
