If Twilight of the Arnor is going to feature completely distinct tech trees for each race, what will happen with Custom Races? Will those of us who like to play custom races have to construct our own unique tech tree just to start playing?

The thing I've noticed is that the frequency is at least uniformly variable across the map — in those games where I don't have many bonus tiles, no one else does either; and when I have a lot, so does everyone else. So that much, at least, is good.

Am I correct, then, in assuming that games with custom opponents are Metaverse-compatible, then, given that the custom race XML files reside in the DA root directory?

Usually any bug present in a cross-patched save will end up in staying there. For what it's worth, I patched in the middle of a game the other night, and the game reloaded with the Fog turned off (I had to re-explore the foggy places to make them visible, of course, but once I dad they were normally visible).

That almost makes it sound like a problem with the Desktop X code, or however you want to call it. Do you have reliable reports on how that product behaves under Vista?

I play a custom,super-warrior,earth spin off race, modeled on the ancient Greeks. With that in mind, flagship is always NSS HYPATIA (Literally, women of superior intellect).I believe thats fitting for a vessel outfitted with my best technology. Her sister ships are DESSA ,ISEMI,and SOLON.(roamer ,to know, and wisdom.) I have redone my survey ship to use a large hull version of the original terren vessel, thank you Kryro. And have made them update

and just like WW2, the Yor lost--badly. Well, given the primitive state of robotics in 1939, is it any surprise that the Yor lost World War II? Once they moved out of the Ruhr Valley, they couldn't even find enough coal to keep their steam boilers running at full capacity.

If you are playing on a Gigantic map, and your home planet is at the far right or top of the map, then yes (there is a bug in the latest patch which leaves the far right and top sectors of gigantic maps permanently shrouded in FoW; a fix should be released very soon, according to SD).

This thread has lurked in the back of my mind. I miss my Legos and I really need to scrounge up a better video card so I can properly enjoy forgetting to finish a game because I'm busy getting all my ships to really look like bugs built them Not dung beetles, I hope. I just want to add that the first time I read this thread, it "inspired" me to blo

The worst part about his bug, I have since discovered, is that if you red a saved game, all of the stars and planets that you had previously stumbled across in the Fog area are once again missing. Every time I reload, I have to send a scout ship out to rediscover where the Altairan homeworld is again.

I'd like to see bonus tiles for cash; I'd also like to see an occasional 300% (or greater than 100%, at any rate) bonus tile for Influence or Morale. I like the idea of respawning anomalies; having them reappear at random throughout the course of the game is the only thing that could possibly make Galactic Guide Book useful. Obviously, the Off-Type Defense and Permanent Fog bugs need to be squashed; I assume that they will be the subject of a patch long before 1.6 anyway. <

I'm thinking now that it might explain why my one saved game started crashing once I installed the patch — in that game, those sectors were already explored and visible. If there is some kind of Fog Flag set per coordinate in the save file, then whatever bug is causing those sectors to remain shrouded might well freak out when it tries to display that part of the map and sees the Fog Flag is not set.

Yeah, same here. I've started a couple of other games, and those squares are still befogged in each of them.

The Romans were not terrbily good at the "quantum leap forward" breakthrough type of inventions; but what they were terribly good at was synthesizing the best ideas of those around them and turning them into practical — concrete, as it were — devices. They were engineers supreme, which is no small thing. They tweaked and streamlined and adjusted other people's inventions and made them immensely more useful as a result. They saw the practical, widespread applications of ideas

I had the same thing happen to me during a game: I was exploring around, and suddenly the galaxy just kind of... ended . Except that it kept going, of course, with stars and planets and stuff out there in the grey fog. <a href="http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=capt

I just installed the new patch, and now the game that I had been playing crashes when I attempt to reload its last save. Grrrrr. It is always best to complete a game before installing an update as saved games usually are not compatible with new releases. This is the first time I've ever had any problems with games spanning updates. Mind you, I don't always upgrade immediately (I'm still finishing up a DL game on my la

My favorite ethical "choice" is the one with the starship orbiting the planet. The Evil choice, of course, is to seize the ship and pull it apart to learn its secrets. Okay; I'll agree -- that's evil, all right. But how on earth is the Neutral choice of "Say hello and ask them for advice (+X% Starship bonus)" less "good" than the Good choice of "Ignore them and hope they go away"? How is that good ? There are games where I try to play straight "good," and that part

(ACiv) Blackleg (get 10pts to figure out where thats from. Heh. I've lost exact count of how many different versions of "Blackleg Miner" I have floating around on my computer. There's Richard Thompson and Steeleye Span, I remember for sure; and I know there's at least one other one I'm forgetting...
