Nah, don't waste weapon/defence space on a ship by adding sensors. Build a dedicated sensor vessel and have it fly close by to your fleet. It's more efficient that way. Think Raptors and Vipers from BSG.
Evil Muppet
There was a space game from long ago that let you do that. Do you remember what it was? Fudgestar: The Cheese Strikes Back?
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Wait... do I hear sleigh bells?
Now there's a thought! GC universe + Elite-style adventure! You're right JokitoRoyo, there hasn't been a good Elite style game for ages. Possible niche in the market there Stardock? *nudge nudge* *wink wink*
Don't forget that the AI changes over time. In my most recent game the Altarians turned Evil. Wouldn't it be kind of boring to know exactly who you could trust and who you couldn't?
I know. I know. I was having to much fun to save...
I started a new game, on a large galaxy, with all races enabled and set to challenging. Planets and Habitable planets were both set to uncommon, but other options were in their default positions. I picked the Terrans. When the game began, I was starting in the southern corner. My immediate neighbours were the Vor and the Drengin, and the only star system not already inside their borders had no habitable planets. However, Earth had a +700% M
In a civilized universe, the citizens of the galaxy would be apalled at such tactics, even citizens belonging to the offending civ. What if each bombardment caused a drop in Diplomatic relations, and caused an approval rating drop. Perhaps this drop could be a permanent 5% per bombardment, or 30% for a year, or something like that. That way, if you do it too often you will have no friends, no economy, and no support. You will probably be overthrown and
I think the point of the commands is to stop the ships showing up in the move list, so you don't have to keep skipping their turns when you want to leave them in one spot. With sentry, they should reactivate when enemies come into range. With guard, they should sit tight even when warships are in sight. I wouldn't like having ships rush into battles before I can check the odds myself.
Nooooooooooo!!!! *dives in front of frogboy's keyboard - saving the SP fans from multiplayer GC2 at the cost of a serious poke to the ribs*
They're now on sale at your local Crumb's Crunchy Delights.
I wouldn't have bought this game if its emphasis was on MP. If you added a simple multiplayer mode and didn't tweak any of the game's other features, I wouldn't care if you added it or not. However, if it will take tons of work, and involve the game changing too much, then I would be against it. It's better to concentrate on SP IMO.
Please DON'T include SP content with a multiplayer expansion (unless they suck of course). I don't want to waste my money on MP to get good SP features.
Well... there's always Xmas, and your local library might have internet access, and allow you to burn files to CD.
I've read the basic strategy guide a long time ago, which helped a lot. Now that we have so many good players here, I was wondering if anyone has put together more detailed strategy guides or articles. The Civ forums I visit have lots of in depth articles about those games, but I can't seem to find any here. (I was wondering if any fan sites might have some). I know, I know, you're probably all too busy playing it. <img src="smiles/Wink.gi
I'm not a fan of multiplayer, so naturally I wouldn't buy an MP-only expansion. I know others say they would purchase it, if it had other content, but I don't think that's a good idea. I doubt I would buy it, as I made that mistake with Civ 3: PTW. I think breaking things down is much nicer, like with the proposed ship hull pack. It's better for users if they can customize their experience.
Your flagship at the beginning has no special features, its just called a flagship for flavour reasons. I always give special names to the first ships of a new design. It makes me care more about keeping them alive.
Companies already release expansion packs that you have to pay for, this is nothing new. Here, we're talking about releasing something smaller, which costs less than an ordinary expansion pack. If you think about it, this is good for the consumer. I can pick and choose which add ons I want, instead of buying the whole bundle. I bought the Civ 3 expansions and never used any of the multiplayer features. If they released a smaller pack contai
Keep that ship pack idea for the expansion. Selling bits of art for your game leads people to think you just want to get money from them. Plus, since the game, according to you, is so easily moddable, we will soon see very very good mods, that will perhaps be as good as your ship packs ; people will start to think that you consider them as milk cows, like
Good article, I understand what you mean. I think, any new features added should be relatively simple, and more thought can be given to them later for a sequel. I think the current combat system is tactical enough considering how you move your ships on the main map. Other features that you mentioned also sound very complicated to add. I'm not totally sure what you mean regarding asteroid fields, but I think some patches of impassable terrain
What keeps Civ3 and civ4 on my PC isn't the multiplayer but MODS. Absoloutely, I think mods allow for a good online community, and lengthen a games lifespan. I've quickly become tired of some of my multiplayer games, yet many SP games remain on my hard drive, including the Civ series, and Morrowind. <
The post brought a tear to my eye... ...Not really, but I completely agree. Many of us don't like multiplayer, and I for one am grateful that you put the effort into developing the SP features first. I like to play video games to relax and get some alone time. I have more than enough real life friends, and I work with people all the time, so its nice to play by myself for a while. That, and I like to finish games quickly, which MP isn't rea
I forgot to mention that I would prefer a larger pack over several smaller ones. If its more efficient for you (and cheaper for us) thats a good thing, and it'll save hassle if you need to reinstall. I would also prefer to pay for official content, than user designs (even though many are awesome).
I would happily pay for a pack like that, although I would have to examine the content to see if its worth $9. I have no problem paying for something if its worth it and good quality though. New ship designs... yummy.
