Learning how to mod the game would be a good thing I think.
Spartan
oops!! I meant "can't" - sorry fingers always move to fast and I almost never proof read.
The new race kinda looks like the Shadows from Babylon 5!!!! ROFL!! My thought exactly. I guess the Vasari are relatives of the Vorlons as well.
Many assumptions are bing made about "megaships". There really should be a design concept dialog opened on the topic. For example I may not look at a megaship as an uberweapon platform but more of a mobile command and control fortress.
You can replace a dead flagship at present. Regarding your question the flags only differ in that they start as a "king" with a few levels and are free other then that if you dont play last flagship then if you lose it the game wont end.
@Fire - the open system is already in the game from what we understand so we assume that it can be modded. Additionally, I'm not advocating a total open system mainly due to concerns about the AI. I am promoting a limited open system. One where there is free travel within the solar system but lane travel between stars. Such a system would provide you with "theater" level front lines, after you have of course secured the system.
Wow! All those ships look like they are lost in space and want to phone home. I have not seen such chaos in any of my games. But I tend to play with far few ships and the AI is simply not a challenge to my defensive practices.
@Com - cool! Please feel free to send me the information. I would really appreciate it. @Prot - yes I completely agree. That is why I'm advocating subsystems and criticals as well as morale and commanders. On the issues of the supply model, since I do not have access to the full working copy I cant comment on it. I can assume given my experience with the TEC faction that supply is not modeled.
@Firefox - I think you are missing the point or at least not looking at things with proper breadth and scope for the over all game dynamics and how such "tactics" can quickly reduce the "fun factor" that said restrictions have been implemented in the first to enhance. Without getting into a long digression that has been already made several times, the net effect of such a system and its highly limited tactics ultimately create a grinder model; which simply is not fun one iota in my opinion. <br/
I think the push back is more then reasonable and warranted. I believe the overwhelming majority of the beta testers will support such a pragmatic decision. In the end it serves to strengthen the brand and title. I can not begin to articulate how irked and peeved I get when titles get pushed out the door to make some artificial marketing or investment deadline or to garner capitalization benefit from some fad or other such short sighted nonsense. There are many companies I simply will
@Seboss - in principle I agree as it really reinforces the tactical validity of the "choke point" argument (which I firmly disagree with). However in practice I think it would really slow down the game, which run counter to choke points = enhanced fun factor position.
@Trist - that has not been my experience. My last game I had over 8 planets and I purposely left a built up planet undefended except for only guns (working on my Gauss Gun mod). The AI sent two fleets in the frigs went to the guns and the caps when to the planet once the planet was toast all my infrastructure simply vanished. I did not report it however because I have several modified files in play and even though the mods I have made have no impact on such a thing logically it simply
@P5y - your update or clarification post reads much more like a real strategy gamer is behind it and not some Jolt drinking, caffeine snorting mutant WarCraft preteen on a crack binge aching for a twitch fest encounter. @Com - your comments are not radical at all. The substance of what you are supporting is what several of us are pushing for from different angels. Have you eve played... <br
1 - has already been brought up. 2 - Yeah it is a bummer. What is worse if your planet gets capped everything self destructs. I do hope that will be changed as well. It is kind of funny in a way however. It is sort of like they send out an APB suggesting to toss in the towel and commit suicide because it will surely irk the enemy to be deprived of the experience (and points) of doing it. The truly last great act of defiance. 3 - I think it is a "whisper" because it is going to you only
@Schem - Kosc is FARKer!
@Van - a most excellent and hardcore micro post. I'm with you 120% brother. However the reality of the situation for the market is that the type fleet dynamics you and I both want is considered small (I highly disagree however). As you appropriately stated in your post SC and its ilk are inherently designed to be polar opposites and given the sales numbers are high for those games it ultimately becomes a self perpetuating cycle; a popular marketing word for it "formula" design. It takes a compan
@Yarlen - yeah, we figured as much because it is ultimately not worth the effort. The comment was a light hearted anecdotal one as in "desperate situations call for desperate measures". It was really not meant to be taken seriously.
@Seboss - you can still get in via StarDock Central and TotalGamingNet.
I assume it would be the "peacemaker" upgrade on the cruiser. Yes?
"Hey buddy, do you mind if we pause the game for a minute so I can plan how to best intercept that attack fleet you're sending at my homeworld? Thanks, you're the best!" Somehow I don't see it happening in most cases You never know... Surely there are a lot of nice would be galactic emperors out there who would
@Blair - the stonewall comment was really meant as a light hearted joke. If you guys took it otherwise you have my apology. @TGE - I happen to really like "business" oriented forums, especially for something as important as a beta test. I guess it it because when I try to make a joke it always comes across as a serious comment. But hey I have tried to make light hearted comments in recent posts although I'm not sure sure they came across as intended (see above - smilies and all).
I got my deep core drilling rig all ready. Bring it on!!!
Well he used the word "cusp" so he gets at least one brownie point.
It is the "pause" key. Not an option in multiplayer, though. True enough at present. The real question should be why not? A progressive product could offer a joint "time stop" request option for players to all "vote" to suspend time for a prescribed duration. Shoot the player making the request could even have to pay a small fee in resources to the other players for the "inconvenience". <br
ROFL!! I guess it is all how one perceives the situation. I consider the limited time factor the primary challenge in epic RTS games. Shoot worse case situation there is always the universal solution when one cant keep up. It is the "pause" key. Seriously however, I fully understand your position. I also understand a lot of people that are likely to purchase this title are not looking for something with highly complex interactive dynamics that are tempered by time sensitive prioritizi
