Mistralok: Yeah, I saw the article on the wiki but it appears to be accurate for 1.31. There seem to be new variables available for enemies in DA, so I was wondering how the difficulty level affects those, if at all.

Oh, I missed it then, I'll go look. Thanks for the quick response kryo!
If you're downloading it through Stardock Central you don't appear to have to enter a serial, presumably the serial is already on file with them (they sent it to you, after all).
I'm just wondering, with all the new control and customization options for enemies, what the difficulty settings really mean in DA? Also, does difficulty setting affect the CPU usage setting? If not, is there any way to just tell the game to let everyone use max CPU time, or do I have to adjust it on a race by race basis? Thanks, Vin
Just got it, thanks for the early delivery SD!
I'm a little unclear, for preorders, on how the purchasing account is linked to Stardock Central. By email address. If you used a different one than you use on the forum/SDC, then you may need to contact [email protected] and request an account merge once you've received an email notice that DA is available for you. Ah, that's so simple it didn't even occur to me. I do
I'm a little unclear, for preorders, on how the purchasing account is linked to Stardock Central. I had to make a separate account when I purchased DA, so how would it know to give me the download through SDC? Will an access key be emailed or... how does this work?
If I hadn't already preordered the thing, this would have convinced me to do so. Wow, just wow. Well done, SD!
Mp's worth about $5-$10 to me. There's no way it could be put into the game in such a way as to make that rate a sensible return on investment, so I'm content for it to remain absent. If it were implemented, I'd prefer it to be in a separate expansion so that those of us that aren't interested (or at least aren't interested enough) wouldn't end up having ot pay for it. No matter how it was implemented, I wouldn't want to see the SP experience compromised in any way.
The biggest problem with Monte Carlo simulation is the raw computing power required to run them. If the AI were to analyze all ship moves in a given turn it'd require enormous processing power. Of course, with Moore's law and all, we'll get to the point where that's possible in due course. It's a really neat idea, actually, it's just probably a long way off from being practical.
I tend to RP myself in strat games of this sort, so I like that the AI does as well. That said, I'd say it makes sense for the highest AI levels should be playing purely to win the game, to provide maximum challenge. Ideally, I suppose there'd be a switch somewhere to flip between the two AI behaviors, but programming two completely different sets of AI behavior is asking far more of SD than is reasonable, I think.
Thanks for the answers everyone. Anyone know the answer to 1)? That is, can the AI win an influence victory while at war?
Interesting, is there any kind of warning when the AI is about to win by tech, like there is with influence?
Well, clearly the AI can win a military victory and I've lost to it by influence as well, but I have a couple of questions about ways the AI can win the game: 1) Does the "cannot be at war" condition apply to AI influence wins? 2) Can the AI win an alliance or tech victory? Thanks...
The gold edition contains the original game and DA, or you can just buy DA alone. DA by itself is only available through Stardock's online store.
I don't recall anyone promising preorders would get the game "long" before release, first of all. Second of all, while the early availability is a nice bonus for those of us that are enthusiastic about the game, I don't think bitching about it is going to make it available any faster. My guess is they either aren't sure themselves when it'll be available or that they have their reasons for not giving an exact date (like maintaining some flexibility to assess bandwidth usage). They have sa
I think a lot of people thought that. It's easy to forget that SD does things other than make games, and that front page articles may be related to those other projects. There's a giant clusterf-ck of a thread on the main page as a direct result, I think, of this misunderstanding. I can't seem to extract myself from it, either, even though I pretty much get where Brad's coming from now.
You just assume that everyone thinks Vista is horrible and that MS is the Antichrist That's funny, I don't remember saying any of that. I said I wasn't interested in it, and mentioned some of the philosophical differences I see between Vista's development and previous SD titles. I wouldn't like to see those ideas implemented in a future SD produc
I wasn't saying you shouldn't, I was just saying it's confusing and a bit concerning to some of us when you do. Do whatever you want, by all means, its your website and your company.
The front page makes that clear enough, so I wasn't doubting it. I suppose i can see where you're coming from, for all that it's a bit alien to me. On a somewhat related note, I know there was a little discussion ages ago about GC2 being ported to Linux. I don't know if that was ever a serious possibility or not, but this kind of thing immediately brings it back to mind. I'd love nothing more, rea
Wincustomize stuff. It's been made clear to me in another forum thread that this is the motivating factor for SD (and Brad's) immediate interest in Vista. That makes sense, I suppose. Disregard my earlier comments, in that case. The whole thing's still somewhat confusing, though.
Well, yes and no. It seems a peculiar hybridization to have a company that on one hand makes deep, complex, strategy games that are compatible with 10 year old OS's and on the other makes pretty bells and whistles for Vista. Don't get me wrong, do whatever works for you and pays the bills, but it's... difficult for me to understand wanting to do both, I suppose. So, simply, I'm still confused, just on a grander scale. Ah well, whatever.
"Daring to discuss the positive aspects of Vista" is fine. I don't really care about that, I have no intention of upgrading to it in the next few years, if ever, and I'm perfectly content to "lose out" on any software that requires DX 10 in that time. What is prompting a strong reaction is fear and concern, I think. Finding an advertisement for Vista on the front page, in Brad's own words no less, makes all of us wonder what's going on. It's very confusing (and concerning) when the anti-D
Dark Avatar runs on Windows 98 even. And that's why I love you guys, but with the Vista ad on the front page I can see how someone could be confused. Hell, I'm confused.
Well, that was a creepy random free advertisement for MS. Other than lowering my opinion of SD (something I would have thought very hard to do, but there it is) and scaring me a bit as to the future of one of my favorite game developers, what was that supposed to accomplish?
