The Initial Save game is still very slow. No change from Beta3A. I believe this is because of the modding features that was implemented. Looking through the save file structure, I have noticed that the save actually keeps a copy of nearly every data file (.xml) that the game used when it was crea

I agree. It's better to build a pure tiny hull (IE: nothing on it) to guard a planet, than to build a ship with defenses only. Not only does it make the ship cost more (and thus longer to build), it also drains maintainance (the only armor *I* would EVER put on these is the massive but cheap "Armor Plating" - but the AI never does this - anything else will make that tiny hull drain 1 maintainance instead of zero). Furthermore, there really isn't any po

Happy to see you guys devoted this patch towards fixing a ton of crash bugs and implementing failsafes... and although I'm still concerned about the save/load features (because it seems like it isn't clearing/loading data properly sometimes) I guess I'll have to wait and see for myself. On a side note, any chance you guys have tracked down the massive freighter fleet behavior that I've been seeing lately? It's an odd annoyance that really s

"100 bugs on the wall... 100 bugs on the wall" "take one down, smash it in the ground" "... 101 bugs on the wall..." Classic, but hey... atleast we get some new stuff to play with in beta 4. Looking forward to it... ^_^;;

Actually I think it's because Stardock is in MI... plenty of talented developers in my area (I'd like to say I'm one of them, but they make me look bad). Of course I don't think any of us are willing to move to MI, simply because *I* am already freezing my butt off come winter and I live in Northern VA... thank god it's over (yeah I'm a wimp when it comes to the cold).

Actually it is VERY easy to get it to replace all existing structures... all you have to do is add this line to "PlanetImprovements.xml" within your NLC entry: "{S_UpgradeTarget}Discovery Sphere{/S_UpgradeTarget}" replacing "{" with " ". This will allow you and the AI to automatically upgrade any research building into NCLs once you have researched it. Unfortunatelly this is a mod so you can't play on t

Oh god, not this again... I wonder how many times people will bring up the same topic. (I really wish the search feature would look through more than the title of a post, then again maybe these people wouldn't bother searching anyways) The system that was put into place was intended to do exactly what it is doing. If you can't accept that and develop your strategies around it, then mod the game to your liking, but please don't go around saying it is broken. Here, I'll even tell you ho

Completely unsure about the bug, but if you want a quick fix to your problem, simply demolish all said starports and build a new one, that should restore the "have a starport" flag. BTW: are you using any mod? (modding starport is never a good idea)

Unfortunately, the attack priority is given to those with the highest weapon to defense ratio [Off / (Def+HP)], so with your carrier group, they will always blow your fighters to smitherines first (because they have no defense and low HP). Then, if your carrier had no weapons, it's just a sitting duck waiting for death (even if it has insane defense lucky hits will still kill it). Fleets of tiny hulls are best used around a military base. Fleets of small hulls are best used aroun

@ Kalin - this I understand for the racially specific special projects that each race can build one of. I have heard of that one - and seen it myself. Yes, for super projects, each race can build one and you can capture them, so this is very easily done. But it also works the same way for Galactic Ach

It is a bonus to help ships defending planets (although still not nearly enough to offset the first strike advantage). I'm not sure what you mean by the second question though. The number displayed *IS* the real strength of the ship that you will have to defeat. If you want to know what it will be like when it is in normal space, then simply "speak to him" and check out the stats on his ships... The exact formula for calculating the bonus takes way lo

The minor races, if helped gets crazy powerful on an even playing field, because most of them have +100 economics. The Andians are by far the strongest of all the minors because they get: +100 econ, +25 weapons, defense, soldiering, +30 military construction, +10 social construction, and 8 logistics (4 more than the other minors). So if you help the andians out... watch out later on (in some games, the Andians will beat people all on their own). <im

If you mean you are getting stuttering during the videos, then turn down anti-aliasing, and play the tutorial mode in full screen. For some reason, bink format is getting worse and worse compatibility daily. Has anyone else notice this?

It's a bug, it's just been around and hard to pull off. That isn't to say that they shouldn't put in some code to remove that item from all build queues (including your own, not just from other civilization). The reason they don't bother checking to see if you are building another one is because you were only suppose to be able to "add" it once. However, they failed to consider that you could capture worlds already building it. So if you were to captur

Errr... if you're having THAT much problem with it, maybe you should stick to using the 1.0x OFFICIAL version? I'm well aware that the beta 1.1 has caused this problem, but I don't recall the 1.0x ever having this. Asking for a refund because you tried a beta is just silly. Reinstall, download the 1.0x update only and wait until the official release of 1.1. Hopefully they will be able to isolate your problem.

Sensor range doesn't have a hard limit of 15... if you built Eyes of the Universe, and pack your ships with a ton of sensors, you will still be able to "SENSE" things, that is, they will appear on the minimap and you will see permanent objects like Starbases in the FOW way beyond the 15 parsec that you have clear vision of. The 15 parsec is just a live update range, used for ships, and stuff that move around. This is put into place really only because it started causing performance problems for

I usually see them whenever I start up a new game and the view is zoomed all the way into my home system with the flagship selected. It's just some white dots even spaced out over the land masses. Nothing very impressive, perhaps it would be nice if there were some more concentrations in certain areas to mimic cities. Of course, none of that really matters, because right after I hit "A" and the focus switch to my colony ship, I zoom way out and never

Actually, it's much better to keep that one guy that you can easily protect around all game and buy everything from him and send all your trade routes to him too, then build a ton of eco-trade boosting starbase on the way and you're set for life (Don't worry, he'll use that money to buy more tech from the other players, which you can then buy off of him for dirt cheap - I like to do this instead of whoring tech). Unless your galaxy is so small and planets are so few that a PQ 15 planet would cha

Editting works fine for me, both main post, and comments, even ones that have been replied on, anotherwords, everything. If you are getting an SQL error, it just means the system is overloaded, and it took too long to fetch your old message and it timed out somewhere in the middile of the process. In cases like this, simply stay calm, do it again, or wait until the number of users dies off a bit.

The first thing I will say is this: this is why there's no multiplayer... because all you'll ever hear is people yelling "nerf!!!". For god sakes man, I had enough of that with the MMORPG. It's a single player game, if people are playing fine with guns, then let them enjoy it. With that said, all I know is, I research up the beam tree until Disruptors III, and then I turn around and research up the missile tree, because I KNOW that I want Blackhole Erruptors as my main weapon, S

You can change the video options in the Main Menu. It actually has quite a few options compared to a lot of games. Just don't uncheck Throttle frame rate - this will casue your video card to overheat; it does not affect the rendering speed. lol, don't worry, that's one card that will NEVER overheat. O

Do military starbases have cumulative effects? IE would a pair of identical bases with modules to give say +1 on all att with overlapping radii give +2 to any ship within the overlap? Yes, although you will probably never need two. One is more than enough.
